“There are barbecue joints you visit… and then there are the ones you remember weeks later because a single bite stopped the conversation at the table. Rudy’s BBQ Shack in Valparaiso falls firmly into the second category.
The first thing that hits you is the aroma. Real smoke. The kind that lingers in the air and promises patience, fire, and time, the three pillars of proper barbecue. Rudy’s leans into that tradition with a menu built around classic slow-smoked meats like brisket, pulled pork, ribs, and chicken, the backbone of any serious BBQ house.
But the true revelation here is the pastrami.
Calling it “good” would be lazy. This is world-class pastrami: thick, pepper-crusted, deeply smoked, and sliced just heavy enough to remind you that you’re eating something substantial. The meat carries that perfect balance between tenderness and chew, with a bark that delivers a quiet hit of spice before melting into rich, beefy depth.
And that’s the surprise. In a barbecue restaurant, you expect good brisket or ribs. What you don’t expect is a pastrami that could hold its own in New York or Montreal.
Beyond the headliner, the rest of the menu holds up. The brisket arrives smoky and tender, the ribs well-rubbed and deeply flavored, and the sides bring comfort to the plate with classics like beans, coleslaw, and mac and cheese rounding out the meal.
The atmosphere is exactly what you want from a neighborhood smokehouse: relaxed, welcoming, and unpretentious. No gimmicks. Just good food and the smell of hickory in the air.
In a region not always known for standout barbecue, Rudy’s BBQ Shack quietly delivers something special. Come for the smoked meats. Stay for the pastrami. And don’t be surprised if you find yourself planning the next visit before the plate is cleared.“

“Had a great experience at LongHorn Steakhouse. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and the staff was friendly and attentive without being overbearing.
The food really stood out—everything was cooked perfectly and came out hot and fresh. The steak was seasoned just right and incredibly tender, and you can tell they take pride in the quality of their food. Even the sides and bread were on point.
Overall, it was a solid dining experience with great service, great food, and a comfortable vibe. Definitely a place I’d come back to and recommend to others.“

“Delicious smoked meats. Had the Blue Velvet, my daughter had the Jammin Piggy, sides were coles slaw and tater tots, everything was terrific. Could not finish the sandwiches, enough for my daughter to bring home for dinner. Very generous portions. Cannot wait to get back to Valparaiso to visit PSM!“
