10 Best Chinese Restaurants in Lawrence

“So my ex and I used to come here throughout our relationship, from 2018 to I think 2022, when they were only doing order pickups. I hope to come back soon to try their delicious authentic food. I tried the Chong Qing spicy beef in March/April, it was just like I remembered, spicy and delicious. The last time I came I think in July, the beef was cut differently, like long strips instead of the squared flat chunks and not as flavorful- but still pretty good. I guess my only suggestion to the restaurant is please follow the recipes you’ve followed before the move , because those are what garnered your popularity ?“

“Best Chinese food in town and in the surrounding area. We have tried a gazillion different Chinese restaurants and all fall short to China House. Who would know a small town would have such a great Chinese restaurant?. It’s very authentic, food tastes hot and fresh every time!! When we lived in the area we would order every Friday night. We just passed through while traveling and had to get us our fix. Of course it didn’t disappoint at all. We have tried many dishes there but we’d recommend the beef and broc combination, sweet and sour pork combination. Their house friend rice has great variety of the meats. Pork fried rice is fresh and pork pieces are crispy and delicious. Chicken fried rice has crispy chicken which doesn’t make for weird gray pieces like some places. White rice is cooked perfectly, not mush. Egg rolls and crab Rangoon always freshly fried. I love their hot oils as well. Would also recommend the veg lo mein. Noodles cooked great not soggy, veggies still have bite left to them, not super soft. Service is always fast and friendly. I always call in my orders and they are kind enough to repeat the order back to me to ensure it’s correct. The only sad part about this place is I live so far away from it now.“

“asian wok is awesome. consistently the best classic chinese food you can get in lawrence. i’m gluten free and they make me the best noodles literally ever. i love asian wok. come here hungover on a rainy day and thank me later. ps the duck sauce is so good.“

“EDIT TO ADD: Rick, the general manager contacted me same day and was amazing! Come to find out, Noah was brand new that day so, I understand the issue with the service. Waiting tables is hard work anyway and it’s especially hard when it’s you first day and you don’t know the policy. Rick also reimbursed my meal and apologized. In short, They were quick to reach out and rectify the problem, which I am very grateful for and impressed. My faith in HuHot is restored and I will remain a faithful patron! Normally we have a very good experience, today… not so much! Had the WORST server I think I’ve ever had “Noah B”, or at least in the bottom 3. He did not visit our table 1 time until he brought the check, no refills. Then, I asked for a box. . . I had been through the line 1 time, had eaten about 5 bites when my stomach revolted (not because the food wasn’t good, I have a stomach issue that causes me to occasionally not be able to eat, unfortunately I don’t know it’s going to happen until I try to eat) I explained this to the server and he still would not let me have a box. So 1 whole meal wasted. It took him 8 minutes to make change for our bill, and then he shorted us $3. The cook was very polite and cooked our meal well. I don’t know if or when we will return to the Lawrence, KS HuHot, but it wont be anytime soon. Do better!“

I placed an order around 6:40pm after a 12hr work shift and my fiance was held up at work for way longer than expected.

I got a call from Tryakki around 8:21pm as a check in.
I was hungry exhausted and a little bummed out thinking about having cold food.

My fiance made it there before I did, grabbed my food, met me in the Ace parking lot, gave me the bag and said;

" They made it fresh since it's been over an hour"

They're hot, they're fresh and have a nice almost caramelized crispyness to the outside that I happen to enjoy.
( Or something like that.

“Fantastic food! Ordered the appetizer sampler, General Tso’s Chicken, and Thai Mango Chicken. Every bite was beyond delicious and we definitely have found a new go to spot!“

I ordered a fish-flavored eggplant and a dry pot potato slices (I originally ordered the dry pot sausage but it was the wrong one, but it was super delicious) and I couldn’t finish it.The boss is super nice, fun to chat with, and the music is very tasteful.Delicious and served in large portions. I ordered an Eggplant w Garlic Sauce and a Spicy pot w Potatoes and Sliced ​​Pork. I couldn’t even finish half of it.The owner is a kind lady and we had a great conversation. She has good taste in music too, I love her playlist.“

“Best Thai food I have ever had! Grew up eating here, amazing people and service. Was worried after the original owners retired, they were always so cool with me and my friends. The new ownership however is amazing! Food is just as amazing as ever. Can’t recommend enough!
