“I walked into Circle Coffee for the first time ( all bright eyed and not decaffeinated, and I totally forgot to ask for my coffee decaf ( or what my sister calls sad coffee). By the time I realized, they’d already made my coffee and I was walking out the door— but instead of giving me the “well that’s on you” look, they smiled, told me to gift the original to a coworker ( who now thinks I’m the nicest person alive) and made me a fresh decaf for free. Heroes are baristas apparently. The shop itself is a whole vibe — calm, great lighting and welcoming atmosphere—enough ambiance to trick me into thinking I’m the kind of person who journals daily or could write a novel. Also, do NOT sleep on the strawberry goat cheese danish. It’s seriously delicious. I took one bite and considered writing it into my will. Life changing and I’m probably emotionally attached to it now. This place has great vibes, great people, and even better coffee and pastries. Highly recommend.“

“My first time in Topeka, Kansas found the wind gusting into the 40’s. Once I dropped off the highway, instead of being relegated to the hotel treadmill, I was able to wander across the parking lot to the Westridge mall.

Two miles in, and a handful of laps behind me, I finally slowed my pace to a crawl and then to a stop in front of this wholesome cookie shop. What kept crossing my mind as I passed it was how vibrant and full the cases looked, in a mall that has seen better days. It was obvious someone or multiple someones were keeping this business busy!

When I stopped, I found out the “why” of that curiosity. Gayla does a little walk in business, but catering and corporate orders have kept her busy for the past 11 years!

My sugar tooth kept directing my mind to the frosted sugar cookies. As she was bagging a little luck of the Irish up, the banana crumble caught my eye and that was added to the bag as well.

A little more conversation and a picture later, and I was back to walking. I did not make it far before I had to open up the bag.

First was the banana crumble. I will never claim to know baking, other than I can consume copious amounts of cookies, but it was light and the banana was very pronounced. Would recommend trying it! One, (or two) would pare perfectly with a morning cup of coffee or tea.

Next up was the sugar cookie.

The first bite, I could feel the snap of the cookie. It surprised me a little as I am used to a soft sugar cookie but then all curiosity was lost and the frosting coated my palette….

Again I know so very little about baking and even less about frosting. But this frosting was absolutely delicious. I can say it is the best frosting I have ever tasted! Light and balanced; not too dense or too sweet, but a perfect mouth feel and taste!

“The customer service I received this sunday at Perkin’s was phenomenal. I went out to eat with my mother in law and my infant son. He is at the teething age therefore he is quite cranky. The entire beginning of us getting there and ordering was filled with him crying (which is not fun in a restaurant). Once our meals came, a sweet older lady who is a team lead there, came to our table and offered to hold my crying son so I can eat. She said that I needed it. Not once has this type of customer service been offered to me anywhere else. I will remember this moment for a long time.“
