Yunnan Kitchen offers a variety of flavorful dishes with unique textures and generous portions. Standout dishes include the grilled lemongrass tilapia and brisket tomato stew, as well as the tofu and peppers dish. The "potato salad" is particularly flavorful but can be very spicy. The restaurant’s fried rice, udon, stir-fried rice cakes, and beef with pickled vegetables are well-executed and flavorful, making it a good spot for a quick and satisfying lunch. The food is so great, dishes like the lala beef and spicy shrimp are especially popular. Portions are large, and the food usually comes out fast, which is perfect for a lunch break. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting, with stained glass lamps and Chinese-style carvings, creating a warm environment. The AC works well, making the space comfortable even in summer, and the staff is polite. The weekday lunch special menu is affordable and offers just the right variety, filling a gap in the South End area where good Chinese food can be hard to find. While the restaurant can be very warm without air conditioning, some dishes like the Yunnan Style Rice Cake and Sweet and Sour Fish Filet have been less successful, with the rice cake turning hard and the batter on the fish filet being too thick. Overall, the experience is pleasant with delicious food, though some dishes may be mediocre in quality. Parking can be a little tough, but it is manageable outside the busy city center.
