“While I may have a bias as a six year server at the Steaming Tender, I am truly blessed to be a part of our team. My fellow servers are genuinely friendly and eager to learn, each bringing their authentic personality and sense of professionalism to the table. Our bartenders mix and match with the best of them, whether you fancy one of our rotating local draft beers, a seasonally curated cocktail, or a classic mocktail for those lighter days, they'll prepare you a beverage that will hit the spot with finesse, know-how, and a great conversation. Our chefs are some of the hardest working people I know, consistently innovating and executing a complex array of well-crafted dishes. They can have a seemingly endless amount of orders coming into their kitchen and still put their hearts and souls into every diner's plate. And the best part is, our dishwashers work seamlessly behind the scenes, ensuring you needn't worry about a thing. Steaming Tender is fully family owned and operated and it shows. Our management values input, seeks new ways to expand and improve, and strive to create a positive work environment. Lastly, but certainly not least, the preservation of this historical landmark of Palmer keeps our rich American history alive. I truly believe H.H. Richardson and Frederick Law Olmsted would be proud. If you appreciate delicious food, delightful service, and a deep dive into local history I encourage you to choo-choo-choose the Steaming Tender.Vegetarian options: Seasonal salads, secret garden veggie burger, basil pomodoroDietary restrictions: Vegan options, gluten free options. Accommodating kitchen.Kid-friendliness: Kids will love watching the trains go by, the birthday song, and sitting in the shoe shine station. The patio in the summer time is always a wow moment as well. Be sure to check out the grounds filled with antique stagecoach, train memorabilia, and genuine 1915 Porter Locomotive.Wheelchair accessibility: Sloped area in the curbing next to the red dining car, beside handicap parking.“

“007's a little doughy for my liking. Same for egg rolls. Everything else was good. Got 2 dinners @ $12.50/EA and split. It was around 8pm so it was quiet. My friend used the Ladies room and she said it was kinda dirty. I usually get dinners ToGo. For about $26 I have enough for days. Love Chinese leftovers!“

“My brother and i went. The food was good. He loved the fish and chips We were one of 3 parties in the restaurant at the time and it took over 1/2 an hour to get our food. I have heard a lot of negative experiences from people in town, and it seemed to be mostly valid critiques. Not sure if I would go again. Concerned we had an unusually good experience.“

Worthington Vineyard & Winery Winery • $$

“What a beautiful winery, off the beaten path! The staff here is lovely and very well educated and the grounds are absolutely beautiful outdoors and indoors - lots of hand crafted wood pieces, antique lighting, and art - I loved the milieu. They have seating indoors near the bar and fireplace as well as upstairs indoors and out on their deck with heaters, overseeing their property and the water! They also have a few dogs and goats on property for kids to see and feed. This is a VERY family friendly winery - lots of families coming with kids and taking advantage of the outdoor space to play outside and visit with the animals. They offer minimal food - charcuterie boxes, chocolates - best to bring in your own food, which most people do.For the wine itself, they have a lot of different types and they’re growing most of their grape varietals on property. They offer four 1.5oz wine glasses for $12 as their tasting flight offering and about 10 other varietals that you can order by the glass or bottle ranging from $10-$12 per glass and $24-$30 per bottle. If you’re with a big group, a bottle would probably be your best bet! Their wines have won a few medals and awards, and it’s just such a cozy, fun experience for groups, families or couples - highly recomend!“

“Absolutely wonderful place! Kate and husband are very friendly welcoming folks. Excellent wine and draft beer to enjoy. Very fortunate that they offer line dancing each week on Thursday nights at 7 pm. Tons of fun. Welcoming crowd! Every month an great country band called Steel and Eazy to dance with from 6 pm to 9 pm. And Alice the dance instructor is fabulous. 10,000 to 20,000 steps dancing and laughing!“

“This is a Hampden County staple. As a Wilbraham native, my siblings and I used to ride my bicycle with friends to Rice’s as kids to buy glass Coca Colas and penny candy. When they closed several years ago, it was a big hit for our community. But the new owners, who opened it back up a few years ago, have gone above and beyond to keep its classic charm while also innovating it as a business. You can still stop in for fresh fruit, baked goods, or a snack, but they now have a full menu with some of the best breakfast sandwiches I’ve ever had. Their ice cream is out of this world. And the vibe is top notch. The inside seating is placed right next to a fireplace, and they have plenty of Adirondack chairs and picnic tables outside for the warmer months. I hear they’re even starting to have live music in the summers.Fantastic classic made even better!Parking: They have a sizable parking lot, as well as options in the back and across the street with a church.Kid-friendliness: This establishment is not just kid friendly, it’s a place I’d encourage families to go to with their kids!“

“If you’re anywhere in the area, this little unassuming cafe is an absolute must.To start, Laura—who it seems typically opens in the morning—had my order memorized like I was a years-long regular after just a single visit. I waltzed in just after opening (7:05), hoping not to be “that guy” that walks in super early while she’s trying to do her side work. She assured me that all was good, and that I was more than welcome. She virtually started making my breakfast before I even ordered. Wow.Next, the food. The FOOD. The COFFEE. Some of the best savory all-American comfort breakfast food I’ve had, genuinely. I’m a coffee snob, and I like mine on the sweeter side. They nail it with their caramel lattes (at least Laura does). The atmosphere is a very warm-toned rustic feel, so it almost comes off as if you’re sitting in someone’s living room. At the center of the room is a few sofas and a table, to boot.Again, if you’re anywhere near VS&C, pop on in. You won’t regret it.“
