About Joyful Garden Watertown

Joyful Garden Watertown is a popular Chinese restaurant known for its dim sum and authentic dishes. It offers plenty of parking and spacious tables, making it a convenient alternative to Chinatown. Visitors often find the servers friendly and attentive, creating a welcoming atmosphere. The dim sum menu includes favorites like egg tarts, which are delicious, though smaller than in past years. The quality of dim sum is generally good, with many dishes satisfying guests, though some items like Salt and Pepper Spring Fish may not be as crispy as expected and have a stronger fishy smell.

The restaurant is praised for its outstanding and flavorful food, especially on special occasions like Lunar New Year, where the food and service make celebrations memorable. Regulars appreciate the variety of authentic dishes such as West Lake beef soup, Yang Chow fried rice, double-cooked pork, and pan-fried flounder. Some dishes, like sizzling steak with black pepper sauce, can be tender but may lack flavor, and portions might seem smaller with higher prices. Service remains consistently friendly and prompt, with wait times sometimes requiring a buzzer system.

Overall, Joyful Garden is considered one of the best Chinese restaurants in the Boston area, offering a warm, family-like atmosphere and good food that keeps people returning. It’s a reliable spot for dim sum, takeout, and traditional Chinese meals, making it a favorite for both casual dining and special celebrations.

The carts come around and you begin your feast. My favorites are chicken feet, spare ribs in black bean sauce, salt and pepper lobster and stir fried Chinese broccoli (not pictured). The bbq pork buns and pineapple custard buns were fantastic as well.

Chicken feet were tender and flavorful. Pork spareribs had great flavor but wasn’t as tender as I would’ve liked. The salt & pepper lobster was crispy on the outside...read full review
