This place is an absolute GEM and worth the drive out on Alpine! Not only is the supermarket packed with authentic products, fresh meats, and endless spices, but the restaurant inside is fantastic too.

I ordered the taco trio platter and WOW… the tacos were thick, loaded, flavorful, and a GREAT portion size. Fresh cilantro, onions, lime, perfectly seasoned meat — everything tasted authentic and delicious. You can tell they care about quality here.

The grocery store itself was impressive. Super clean bathrooms too. They literally had EVERYTHING I needed to make pozole, including the hominy, spices, meats, and even the birria bomb mix! The meat selection looked incredibly fresh and the spice section was amazing. If you love cooking authentic Mexican dishes or want to try something new, this is your spot.

The staff was super helpful, friendly, and patient while I asked questions and grabbed ingredients. I ended up leaving with all kinds of goodies because there were so many great options throughout the store.

There was a bit of a wait since they were busy, but one bite and I totally understood why. The service was excellent! My server was so attentive and friendly. I also ordered a steak torta to go, and even though there was a small mix up with the order, they handled it like pros, remaking the steak torta and letting me keep both! They deliver it quickly and it was amazing… one of the best I’ve ever had. it was loaded with all kinds of stuff, including fresh, sliced avocado on the top. My meal came with three bottles of hot sauce that varied in flavor and heat. I tried one of the green ones and loved it. “My girlfriend and I spontaneously found dinner here after walking down Fulton to another restaurant. We loved the atmosphere especially with the World Cup being played on all the TVs. The tacos were top tier compared to other Mexican restaurants I’ve been to in GR. The salsas provided were more comparable to a sauce. We didn’t have an issue with it but I think it would be nice to have a real salsa in a bowl for others that aren’t used to that. We had a great experience and will be back!“

“I was honestly devastated when Taqueria San Jose closed in Grand Rapids. I have spent the past several years looking for a place that could maybe be as good with no luck. A lot of good places, but none that had what TSJ had. Their nopales tacos are truly the best I have ever had, it’s my favorite style of supreme tacos, the guacamole is perfect, and the people running the restaurant are so kind! I went back for the first day they reopened on Division and it’s everything I remembered, which is tough when you’re up against nostalgia. Best Taco place in Grand Rapids hands down.
