While in Muskegon last week, stopped at Slappy's looking for a small quick bite. Ordered an Empire Dog upon recommendation from the gal working.
OMG it was so good! I should have taken a pic of it. It was huge! Couldn't eat the whole thing. Never had a hot dog taste so good! The mix of bacon wrapped around a hot dog, not a regular hot dog, along with the beer cheese, grilled onions and their special sauce was like something I've never tasted...it was so good!

Slappy's Slaw Dog and Sandwich is a great addition to the Lakeshore and Lakeside neighborhood restaurants, considered a gem for a quick bite. The store is very clean and spacious inside, with plenty of booths and a nice atmosphere to hang out with friends. It is an order at the counter type of classic restaurant.
The food is amazing, great, and full of flavor for a great and very reasonable price. The menu offers a vast array of flavors. Specific highlights include the excellent 231 coney dog, a favorite go-to hot dog, and the CHI dog, a beast of a Chicago dog described as messy in a beautiful way. The Italian beef tastes super close to the real deal in chi-town. The smash burger, a pretty decent smash patty burger made fresh, also receives raves. Sides like the absolutely loved cheesy tater bites and chili cheese fries with crinkle cut fries are noted, though the chili flavor was found to lack something.
The staff are always friendly, helpful, and super nice, providing good, timely, and energetic service with hospitality as a nice touch. You can tell the staff enjoy their work. Overall, it is a great place with excellent food, highly recommended for anyone heading to or from the beach.
