“If you like Kwik Trip food this is it but better and for better value. There are also additional options that Kwik Trip doesn’t offer. The portion sizes are huge and the food is hot and fresh. Order from a menu at the Hearty Platter counter and then grab a coffee or a Buddy (free refills of both when dining in), and check out at the Kwik Trip register with your drink and Hearty Platter receipt. Sit down at a table and someone will bring you your food. No tips required but if you do tip they are donated to a charity.”

“Sagra is an Italian Eatery above Piggy’s on Front Street in La Crosse. It was recommended to us by several residents. It did not disappoint. We started with an Arancini appetizer. We have had arancini before, but NEVER like this. It’s the best we have ever had. Instead of being rice heavy, it was cheese heavy. They were almost like a Wisconsin cheese curd. The pecorino, a mixture of Italian cheeses, was melty and delicious, especially dipped in the buttermilk dipping sauce. We also ordered the special appetizer, fried wax beans. The breading was very light, almost like tempura. The dipping sauce added the flavor. They were good, but the Arancini definitely stood out. For entrees we got a crawfish dish and a chicken dish. Both were generous portions, which allowed us to have leftovers for lunch the following day. The Crawfish Fra Diavola was filled with crawfish and was very flavorful with fresh ingredients. The Chicken Scarpariello was delicious. The polenta was rich and creamy. The chicken comes bone in and skin on, which keeps it juicy. This dish also had Italian sausage and fresh vegetables. I really enjoyed the Italian sausage as a contrast to the chicken. The only disappointment was when we asked the waitress what 5 dishes were on the “chef’s market menu,” she didn’t know and really wouldn’t elaborate. I wanted to try that, but at $58 per person, the requirement for full table participation, and no information, I wasn’t willing to take the chance.”

“Exquisite! The apple and cheese salad was uniform cut and the flavor perfectly balance. Pure joy in every bite!
The pappardelle noodles perfectly cooked and each one was evenly coated with the sauce. Amazing!!
The pistachio crème brûlée on point and heavenly. Overall nothing was over salted or overly sweet. Flavors pair well.
My server knew the menu very well and explain each dish with poise and patience. She wiped the table in between coarses with a crumb tray and clean white cloth then set me up for the next dish with proper placement. I also observed the staff being courteous and professional with each other.

“We stopped by last night around 7:15, and there was a good sized line. We weren’t aware that the store was supposed to close at 7 (the website says 9pm). The young man working was the only one there and he handled the line and the late closing extremely well. It wasn’t until someone came in around 7:40 and there were still about 3 parties in line that he told the new customer who came in that they were already closed and that we realized we were “those people”. I just wanted to take a minute to compliment this young man working. He really did a great job of handling a stressful situation, the line was long but you wouldn’t have known by how he handled himself. The customer service was great and so was the ice cream!”

My son never feels left out or sad about not being able to eat a treat because he can bring one from you guys! We also order cupcakes for his birthday party and people have preferred the taste of Omegas over grocery store bought! We are so lucky to have access to an allergy friendly bakery.”

“We love Diggers. Best in La Crosse. But a recent trip let us down. The classic bread crack to locals was gone. Fayzes provided it and they closed. Today People’s Food Coop brought Fayzes bakery back. Hoping the wonderful bread is restored!”

“Outstanding service from Grace. She made sure everything was perfect. Food was amazing. Devils on Horseback for app, pear salad and Italian soup, day boat scallops, spicy pasta with colossal shrimp and creme brûlée for dessert. All were fabulous.”

I just had a latte and croissant and was too impatient to take a photo before enjoying it, but it was lovely. It's a great place to pop in or to spend a while hanging out or getting work done. I'm currently working on some writing and looked out the window to see an eagle soaring over the frozen Mississippi River. So magical.
