Good time there this morning
Usually reliable for a standard and decent breakfast, Perkins was quiet and a good way to start the morning. Our server, Brenda, was fun to chat with. We had potato pancakes and oatmeal, all was decent.
We're not frequent visitors to Perkins, but I have to say my expectations were blown away with the food and service at this location. I was a bit skeptical about getting eggs benedict as I'm accustomed to ordering it only from upscale restaurants, but truly, there was no difference, they were fantastic and there were no complaints for my wife's blueberry pancakes either. Based on the reviews, this Perkins Restaurant & Bakery in Duluth is a good place to go and a good family eatery. The staff is friendly, professional, and a pleasure to work with, with one waitress noted as exceptionally attentive and kind. The building is very tired and could use a badly needed upgrade. Food quality varies. Meals are generally tasty, with specific mentions of crispy hash browns and a surprisingly excellent steak. However, some dishes have issues: a loaded baked potato soup was warm and thick but a little too salty; a cheeseburger had an overcooked patty lacking juiciness and flavor; a potato pancake was a tad overcooked; and one order of fried dill pickles tasted like they were fried in the same oil as the fried fish. Another order came with gravy with a side of mashed potatoes and skillet, where there was so much gravy. Portions can be inadequate, and service, while professional, can sometimes be not great.
