Most of the time when I'm at the Rex I'm rather underwhelmed. The drinks are expensive and not good, and the crowd (mostly college students) tend to be rude and disrespectful. But I went for a couple shows during Homegrown festival, which tends to draw a more mixed audience, and I had a great time. The space is big enough so popular concerts still don't feel cramped, and the gin & tonics were just right that particular night.
Great place. I was most likely the oldest dude in there, but the atmosphere was energetic and positive! Reminded me abit of the raves in the Chicago warehouse district. The patrons were fun and actively engaged in the music and dancing. I'll be there again.
We came here for the Duluth homegrown music fest. Beer came in a plastic cup for 6 dollars during the event,the sound system was absolutely awful when the bands were on stage playing. Your down in a basement so the place was super dark,dreary and damp smelling. Bartender and staff were wonderful people,very helpful and cheerful.
