“The husband took our 4 year old and 7 year old to eat dinner there today without me. He ordered 1 kiddie bowl of pho and a 2nd kiddie bowl of broth and meatballs only. They charged him for 2 adult phos (16.00 each= 30 total) ontop of the regular entres he ordered (75.46 total). We've been dining there almost once a week for the past few months spending close to 100 each time. Very disappointed and show no value to loyal customers. Never returning.“

“Ordered pick-up from this spot tonight for the first time and it was excellent. Probably the best Thai food we've had in a long time and we have some great Thai options in Minneapolis. The pricing is great for the value of what is provided and the current cost of goods and they clearly labeled our curries as gluten free after I asked if they could please be made so in the comments after not seeing if they were GF. It was a thoughtful reassurance on the part of their staff. Our two year old loved the chicken satay, which were referred to as chicken popsicles, which is gross but peaked his interest. The mild curry was still a bit spicy for him but it looked good enough for him to try even with our warning. We will definitely be hitting them up again soon! Thank you!“

“Decided to revisit after two years and ended up visiting two days in a row because I couldn’t stop thinking about it.

The menu has clear markings for vegetarian and gluten free. As someone who is gf, I really appreciate the labelling and the large amount of options there are.

The pad thai is phenomenal and the portions are on the generous side—which I appreciate. The tofu triangles and sauce were additionally delicious. I can’t wait to go back and try other items.

My only ‘complaint’ is the spice levels, which is hard to gauge at every restaurant and very subjective. For reference, as a non-native Minnesotan I love spice. I’ve tried their Hot (3) and Very Hot (4) but was a little underwhelmed, so I’ll be getting the 5 next time. Just a heads up if you like spice!

The music selection is also on point. Whoever controls the aux has good taste.

“Myself and my fiancé are from Northern Minnesota and were there in July of last year. There were a couple of minor issues with our visit that day, but the food was delightful. Our server suggested that the manager may want to speak with me in regard to our experience, given the nature of the issues that occurred, so I left my business card and honestly forgot about it, as it wasn't that big of a deal to me. Some time later I received a letter at my office from the manager (I found out later that she's actually the owner.) She sent me a check to refund the cost of our meal, along with a very nice note of explanation and apology. The refund was way above and beyond what was necessary or expected. She took full responsibility for the issues that we had experienced at her establishment that day in July. She also asked for another opportunity to serve us the next time that we were in the area. This was a very classy (but unexpected) response to what I would consider to be something that wasn't that big of a deal to me, but it clearly was to her. Given the high standards that she clearly demonstrated for her establishment, there was no doubt that I would honor her request for a second opportunity. This last Saturday we were finally in town again and were able to visit the Basil Café for a second time. We had an absolutely delightful experience in every regard! After our meal, I asked the pleasant young lady that was checking on us if the manager happened to be in on a Saturday. Well, that turned out to be her! Her name is Tiffany, and she is the owner of the Basil Café. I introduced myself to her and she not only remembered the letter that she had sent and the small issues that occurred on our previous visit, but she also remembered my full name from memory!!! We had a very nice conversation and she sent us home with some extra spring rolls that we enjoyed at home later that evening. Tiffany, I also run a business, and the way that you treated us and handled that situation is an impressive lesson in customer service and leadership. You didn't just recover us as customers, you created 2 raving fans of your business through your actions and demeanor along with your wonderful cuisine. You easily could have brushed off the initial experience that we had last year. And, while we weren't upset about it, we likely wouldn't have thought to ever return to your establishment if you had. Instead, you held yourself and your wonderful restaurant to a higher standard, and you made 2 raving fans that will return again and again and will recommend your establishment at every opportunity. Tiffany, thank you for a wonderful dining experience and thank you for a refreshing attitude and demonstration of personal responsibility that you so impressively gave. “I go to Mela once a week for the Pad Thai, spice level 5. It’s the only time I go out to eat and is a weekly treat. I love them, the staff is always very friendly. I have celiac disease, but have never had an issue with cross contamination. I would say that Mela is both celiac and gluten free safe in my experience and even has vegan options so overall is very dietary restriction friendly. I will say that sometimes it’s less spicy than others, I order level 5 but get what seems like a level 2. I just leave a note in the comments that say I want smoke to come out of ears from how hot it is and then I get the level of spice I’m looking for 😂
It’s fantastic and really the only place I feel I can trust with allergens. I cook everything from scratch and only eat out if I can’t make a better version myself. I recommend them to everyone. I have order once a week since moving to the area in June :)

Avoid the cashew chicken; it has so little flavor even the English would add some spices to it. It's like eating a Michelob Ultra.
Treat yourself right and get a curry instead.“

Very responsive as I texted prior to actually visiting the location to make sure I went to right location. Ordered the shrimp fried rice with 1/2 teaspoon of spice and it was fiya! Right amount of heat, flavor filled and shrimp cooked with the right texture. I ordered the imitation crab wontons, the presentation of these was beautiful. The imitation crab can be a hit or miss for people who like it. Sometimes the warm imitation crab is not as great as the cold imitation crab. I will be brave next time and try the fish meatball wontons. I inquired about the fish and it redfish Bree. Never heard of it so was scared but maybe next time. Definitely will return. Great food. I was stationed there for one year during the Viet Nam War, and ate Thai food every day. Went back to visit in 2019 for 3 months. Returning this winter to live there. Anyways, I have been to several restaurants in search for this dish here at home. And never could find one that was the same. Many were Vietnamese that served Pho and is not the same. It looks the same but the flavor is different. Only Thai cooks, especially from the Issan area have the secret recipe I guess. Guay Tiew is one of the top dishes in Thailand. Right up there with Pad Thai and Tom Yum, etc. I believe that it does not get noticed because there is not a long list of ingredients and spices like most dishes. Also had a perfect Thai Coffee and a Singha beer. The Lady that waited on me was the best one could ask for. Please try the Thai Noodle Soup, (Guay Tiew) for a treat.“

This was by far one of my favorite Thai orders in many years - we had the khao soi curry, red curry fried rice, pad Thai along with a couple apps and were floored with how amazing everything was. “The location of Kindee is perfect for so many who want to see a show at the Guthrie, especially if you need to eat gluten-free! They have so many options on their menu for Gluten-friendly, and everything was delicious! I enjoyed a small teapot of jasmine tea with my mee gati and my husband enjoyed the massaman. My dish was loaded with tasty ingredients on a pool of broth. The broth had just the right amount of spicy kick to bring the flavors to life without overpowering my palate. The massaman was also a touch spicy, but with an interesting sweetness like brown sugar inside! I think we need to keep showing this little restaurant some love because we will definitely come back!“

We had never been here before, so I played it safe and got the pad thai (best pad thai i've had in years) and I am SO eager to return and try more dishes, and some sushi! My partner got the Japanese beef bowl and it was rich and flavorful, with an unexpected ginger flavor under the tender beef and onions. Gyoza was stellar as well as was the Japanese hot tea.
