“We came to specifically eat at Kawae because of the good reviews. I would say it lived up to the reviews. Great execution, good flavor, more than enough food. However, the ramen we got (Tonkotsu) was too rich for us and didn't have enough/any vegetables. I know that's not really a thing with ramen (pork is), but it's my thing since I don't eat much meat. I always try the main thing at ramen places because that's what they do best (like when I went to the original Momofuku in NY), but it is not what I would like to consistently order. I would definitely go back, but would ask them for their recommendation for a lighter broth and a ramen with more vegetables. OR if they ever did veggie udon I'd be all over it.It looks like you can modify the Tonkotsu (no 14 hr broth, no pork), I would be curious about those options. I am curious about the Shojin. The gyoza dumpling was an interesting presentation and very good.I reviewed the food hall separately, it's not a super enjoyable atmosphere. We will definitely come back here to try other dishes, but most likely will get take out. In the Summer it could be nice to sit out in the courtyard area.“
“The best place to get authentic ramen in the Twin Cities! The environment is cozy, and the staff has always been friendly. The ramen itself is great, with the broth being delicious and the pork being super tender and full of flavor. I’m always a sucker for good gyoza too, and here it’s great! There’s honestly not much else to say - this is a great no-nonsense place to grab a bowl of authentic ramen. Will definitely be visiting again!“
“I want to preface this by saying it was delicious, the service was incredible, and the atmosphere on a Friday night is lively and fun.I just can't give it 5 stars in confidence because the lychee cocktail made me incredibly, acutely ill. I was keeling over in stomach pain and retching bile within an hour of drinking it.This sucks because it was absolutely delectable and I would drink it again, lol.“
“The venue is cramped but their food is very authentic and spicy! Newcomers to Korean cuisine, beware: heed their warnings about spice levels. “Very Spicy” and “Very Very Spicy” have put me in tears. But tasty. Try the stew with beef + octopodes; seafood; everything else on their menu is delicious too.“
“We've been to more than a dozen local (Twin Cities + Suburbs) ramen shops and this one feels like one of the most authentic in the area. Great food. The Chashu in the Tonkotsu Ramen is THICK and juicy, the Karaage is Instagram worthy, and those soft boiled eggs should just come with every meal... anywhere. You can order at the counter or (as we did) from the table with a QR code and your phone. The service was fine, you get the impression they're trying to limit customer interaction time, which can be good if you want to be left alone. If you're a ramen fan you should check this place out.“
“Ramen Shoten helping me survive winter with this ramen awesomeness. This was the spicier of the chicken charsu options, can’t remember the name but it was fabulous. I really love the market space as well, great environment for a cold weather lunch.“
“This place is smaller, so there is no table service per sé, but everyone was polite and friendly. Menu may not be as big as some other places, but I thought it was very solid. We had a couple ramen options during our visit (the #3 & #4), and both crushed the craving and was very good, just not the best I've had by any means. Saying that, I would have no problem recommended it.“
“There so real creative genius going on here. The concept is funny to go along with food. Whole venue is toned properly, it’s warm and inviting. We tried about 6 different dishes and nothing fell short at all. Over delivery imo. The classic broth left me wanting more even after the indulgence. Took on a sake flight with surprise poor’s from our host. Can’t remember the gentleman’s name but his recs and knowledge of the drink list and menu helped to highlight how they do the work so well here. I’m town for a few days only, so happy to have found this gem. Recommend to all.“
“Good food and service. The rolls are nice with delicious sauce. The sushi and sashimi are great. Fresh salmon and yellowtail. Very thick cut. The creamy scallops sushi is a nice taste. The sushi tower is always my goto. Great flavour with rice at bottom and fresh salmon on top. The AYCE price is very reasonable for the quality of food.“
“Really good ramen place!!! Service was good, atmosphere was fine, it was really slow when we went around dinner time on a Monday. Good veg options. The harumake (spring rolls?) were reallllllly good. Price was $45 for two people with an appetizer and two bowls of ramen, no drinks. Will be going “
“Very happy to have a good sushi and Ramen restaurant nearby! My test of a good sushi place is freshness of the scallop sashimi and it did not disappoint. We also had cream cheese wonton and tempura appetizers that were both very good - light and crispy!“
