About Ole Tavern on George Street

Ole Tavern on George Street is a warm and cozy setting with history and character. The food is good, with hot, good-sized portions and decent flavor. The Monte Cristo sandwich is a real star, with a crunchy fried exterior and soft bread, cheese, and ham inside, served with powdered sugar and raspberry compote. The Pimento Cheese BLT is fine, though the croissant gets flattened. Standard home fries have good flavor but are not crispy, while sweet potato fries are actually chips. Service is friendly and top notch; one visit included an owner sharing history of the place when it was called George Street Grocery. The bar has no drafts due to maintenance, but bottled beer is cold. Upstairs is a great club environment with a good DJ, while downstairs is a calmer social environment for 21+ to gather. Lady's night on Thursday has $10 admission. Bathroom supplies need improvement, but the stage and dance area upstairs are kept clean.

Accident place to eat

Online it seemed like a fun local place with some history and character. Surprisingly its a bar that has no drafts due to maintence and is seemingly run by a gang of 20 year olds that hang out in the street and act like the place it theirs. No one else but me and them here. Yet, the music is club level. No conversation possible. Very odd. That said the food was good and the bottled beer cold. I hope this place rediscovers its pub roots. Its probably an amazing piece of local history...read full review

Stopped in at Ole Tavern on George Street after a long day on the road and it hit the spot real nice. Food come out hot, portions good sized, and everything had decent flavor, not just salt and grease. Folks workin there were friendly, kept my drink topped off, and the place had that relaxed feel where you can sit a bit and unwind. For the money I paid I walked out full and satisfied, I would sure stop back in again.
