“I had heard of Hal & Mal's years ago, but had never been there until today. I spotted it on Google Maps and it guided us there. Thank goodness it did because you don't find this place by accident.

It was great! I got the Commerce Classic and I was impressed. It had perfectly cooked thick cut bacon (crispy, but not overcooked), delicious cheese grits, a homemade biscuit with delicious strawberry jam, sausage, and some delicious, well seasoned roasted potatoes. I also chose for the eggs to be fried over easy and was pleased that they were not overcooked, as they usually tend to be. Plus, our server was great! It was just altogether a great experience.

Kid-friendliness: Very kid friendly and their grilled cheese is above average.“

“This place was so cool. I didn’t expect the interior at all. Started with drinks, I got a Singapore sling and it was TASTY! Then we tried their pork buns and chicken buns. Both were great! I got the kimchi ramen with the two spice level and it was DELICIOUS! We ended with mochi and both preferred the strawberry to green tea.“

“My husband and I were in Jackson with a few hours to kill. We stopped a nice couple in Highland Village to ask where they would recommend us eating lunch. We were both very pleased with their recommendation. I enjoyed the linguine with crawfish tails on which our attentive waitress helped me decide. My husband enjoyed the carne pizza. We will definitely return the next time we’re in town.“

“Today was the 1st time I’ve been to The Manship. We sat outside as the day was overcast and comfortable temps. The atmosphere is laid back southern elegance. Lunch menu choices made it difficult to choose. We started with the seasonal cocktail, a very Manship twist on a French 75 served frozen in a coupe and garnished with a violet. This is one I hope they make a permanent part of their menu. Perfect balance of sweet/sour and delightful on the palate. Next we shared smoked tuna dip served with what I think were fried tortillas seasoned with chili lime and saltine crackers. It rivals the best smoked tuna dip I’ve ever had from along the Atlantic. For entrees we chose small plates: Manship Woodfired Oysters served with focaccia and a special of Bbq pork belly served with Brussel Sprout slaw. I am not fond of brussel sprouts & surprisingly I loved the slaw. The oysters were beautifully served in a dish that kept them warm and not overcooked. The thick slices of bread were perfect for dipping in the butter sauce used in cooking the oysters. The pork belly was so good. Just the right amount of rub and sauce cooked to tender, melt in your mouth perfection. Our server was a total pro. I feel so bad because I didn’t write down her name. My daughter who was with me once worked as a server at a restaurant much like Manship. She was very impressed because our dishes arrived in perfect order and timing. She was knowledgeable about every item on the menu. Do yourself a favor and go eat at this wonderful establishment! We will come back!“

“The atmosphere is super nice and they even have arcade games. The only thing that ruins the experience is the bartenders. They seem super annoyed and seem to hate their jobs. It really kills the urge to buy any more drinks. If you avoid the bar, then this place is great“

“Nice restaurant, upon entering you'll notice a pass through cages and I noted that this was very unique. They have a drink bar to the right and straight ahead is the counter where you receive your order. Because I called my order in they just asked for my phone number and I gave it to them and my order was brought out in seconds. My only dismayed is that the food is so hot that it stings in the carryout container and it makes the food soggy. I wish there was a way that they could rectify this otherwise I would give them all high marks.“

“This is the best place in Jackson for a great home style hamburger. It is consistently good. The burgers are big and cooked just right. The price was better than expected. It is my go to for burgers. They also have a variety of local menu favorites like turkey necks, fries fish, chicken, and Kool-aid. You can also enjoy a game of pool while u wait. I recommend ordering ahead. They give u a call when ur order is ready, to avoid having to get there and wait. The only issues are parking and location. The parking is very limited and kind of difficult to get to. No designating parking spots. It's also not well lit.“

Parking: The parking lot is in fondren district Corner market. Be careful and make it ok without incident. They do have parking security on duty.

Kid-friendliness: Yes and try the milk shake, sundaes. They have rootbeer float. Old timey bar stools and great service“

“This place was great! The food is locally sourced and fresh, and was delicious.
The owner shared knowledge about the history of the building, and there’s an outside patio that is fun for kids. The chicken fingers were the best we’ve had in a long time! Also recommend the Brussels sprouts and the rice with mushroom gravy. And the fries are awesome too. Really all the food was amazing. Highly recommend!“
