“Great service , great food , great atmosphere makes for a great dining experience”
“We celebrated my mom and husband’s birthdays at Italian by Night on Tuesday, August 19th, and it was such a perfect night! The team was super accommodating, and Liz, our server so kind, patient, fun and friendly. She really went above and beyond to make the whole experience extra special. The food (as always) was absolutely delicious, and the atmosphere makes you feel like you’ve been whisked straight to Italy. It’s often our first pick when we’re celebrating anything special...or when we’re just craving some amazing pasta. This is hands down the best spot in the Saint John and we recommend it all the time. Thank you for creating such a beautiful spot and adding such charm to our city. We look forward to supporting your business for many more visits to come! Grazie!”
“You know that show “The Bear”? No? Seriously? Well, this is your cue to buy the Disney app and go watch it, loser. Because this is the kind of restaurant that they should make a tv show about.
I felt like I walked into a Carmy owned restaurant, but instead of a clean shaven Jeremy White cooking in the back, we got a grizzly Chef Alex working the front.
We showed up on a Saturday night after a hockey game (mom, dad, 13 year old kid) without a reso and Chef Alex greeted us at the door. The place was packed. He apologized; nothing open right now and then he made fun of our Halifax Mooseheads sweaters, before he apologized again. So we went down the street for a drink and booked for 8:15pm.
I’m so glad we came back. Again, chef Alex came from around the bar to greet us (made fun of our jerseys again) and showed us to our table. Sarah was our server and she was fantastic. She made the best cosmopolitan martini I’ve had in a very long time, she did say she made a killer martini, and I was foolish to doubt her.
She really took her time and explained the different drinks, pizza, and pasta dishes.
We all ended up with pizza; one basic cheese, a viper, and a NY deli, and they all came out piping hot and made to perfection.
The whole time, Chef Alex was walking around; looking at the food being prepared, checking in with guests, talking with servers. He must have put in a good 10,000 steps just during our meal. The whole place had a great vibe; very chill, great cocktails, nice lighting, unpretentious. You could show up in a cocktail dress, or jeans and a hoodie. Everyone was welcome. When we were walking out he asked us how we liked our food, he was very engaged and he thanked us for coming in.
I recently read an article about restaurants in Canada (especially in the Maritimes) that are constantly struggling. The cost of ingredients are increasing, no one can afford to eat out and everyone is trying to cut back. Restaurants are the first casualty when families are trying to save money.
But please, please, treat yourself to a night out at Beer Bread. Recognize that there are businesses out there that are trying their very best to make it work, and this is one of them that puts in 100%. You really feel like they are so happy you chose to come here and they will do whatever it takes to make this an amazing experience for you.
If we ever come back to YSJ, we will definitely return here. For another martini! And maybe pasta next time. Even though there was no Carmy.”
“Delicious food, the best beef broccoli I’ve ever had. And everyone working here is so friendly and kind! Definitely a must try and we will be back!”
“The staff were friendly and the beer was cold, but the overall experience was a bit unusual. I was visiting St John with a small group and we were quiet looking for a pub to have a couple drinks. I heard a musician playing while we were walking past and was a bit surprised to hear live music on a weekday in the afternoon. I convinced my group to go in and we ordered a few and took a table in the otherwise empty room. After about 10 minutes, people suddenly started flooding into the pub and I could see a line forming outside the window, going down the street. Within a few minutes, the previously empty pub packed with people. The owner took the stage and introduced himself band then talked about the history of the pub. Apparently, unbeknownst to us, this seeming quite pub is an incredibly popular destination for guided tours of the area and the influx of patrons was the result of one such tour. During the hour or so that we sat, this process would repeat; the bar would empty out entirely, then it would fill and the owner would speak, then it would empty again, as each tour group passed through. In the end, it was a funny experience, but it's definitely not the slow and quiet pub that it looks like from the outside.”

“The service ( Sylvia )was great and management was fantastic. Our drinks were bad. Bud on tap was cloudy and warm. The margarita was soapy. Management reversed the charges which was greatly appreciated. We did get a bottle of Bud that was clear and cold.”
“The fish and chips were the best we have had, the atmosphere is awesome and the service was excellent. Our waitress Taylor was awesome. Thank you Ben and staff for the wonderful meal, we will be back soon. 🙂”
“Absolutely amazing experience every time. The food is made with creativity and love, and the staff makes you feel like you’ve been invited in to their family. Make a reservation so you aren’t disappointed. And don’t forget to try their Saturday Bakery for some incredible freshly baked goods!”

“Ordered for the first time here. Ordered through Doordash. THE FOOD TASTED FANTASTIC 10/10. But the portion is just not giving 20 dollars. Anyway, I SUGGEST THAT THEY INCREASE the Portion of THEIR FOOD. So the pricing for the Combos are 20 dollars (plus taxes) but the portion is not worth 20 dollars I say… Badly want to order again but 20 dollars for 1 combo and small portion was just not worth the price.”

“We went for lunch today at Susanna for the first time. The service, portion, atmosphere were even better with the new shiny location. The taste if it's possible was even better than usual. Congratulations on your new adventure and based on today's visit you have a winner. We will be back soon and will bring friends.”
“Had a wonderful breakfast here today! The food was cooked perfectly and staff were great ! Also, best view in the city”
“Had dinner twice there as I was staying at the Hilton. First night got the Nachos, they were pretty nice, good portions and very fresh. Second night was the Fish N Chip, which was disappointing, the tartar sauce felt weak, the batter was soggy, and the fish tasteless. Nice selection of draft beer, but they are over 11$ a pint.”
“If anyone has not gone axe throwing I definitely recommend it. Great staff and lots of fun throwing axes.”
24 Hour Restaurants
“Nice clean friendly atmosphere was a lot of cleaning done in store that day which was very nice to see. The fireplace and stone wall make it very cozy and inviting this is where my gf and I meet up all the time for some downtime to sit relax and chat which I look forward to very much .”
“what's a king to a god? a damn good burger apparently. we placed an eighty dollar order and in was ready in five minutes. insanity. not only did they put the fast in fast food, they put the crown on my head. burger king is, undeniably, an institution, and this establishment is a beaming example of it. LONG LIVE THE KING!”
“Dinner was delicious, beer hit the spot and then dessert….it to was fantastic. Loved the easy atmosphere and our little waitress. Will definitely come again when back this way.”
“Amazing experience! Fantastic service! And delicious food!! Honestly Saint John’s best kept restaurant secret. I wish I had know about it sooner!!!”
Takeout Restaurants
“Lovely cafe in the heart of uptown Saint John. Friendly staff and ample drink selection. They sell several varieties of locally roasted beans and have an emphasis on local/canadian suppliers. The atmosphere isn’t as cozy as other cafes but they get an extra star for being so dog friendly!”
“I had a great experience at Pizza Salvatore! The service is excellent, the staff are very friendly, helpful, and welcoming. The pizzeria is always clean and well-organized, and the food is fresh, tasty, and served quickly. The atmosphere is comfortable and family-friendly, which makes it a great place to eat in or take out. Definitely one of the best pizza spots in town—I highly recommend it!”
“At work today, there was a 1 hour presentation with coffee break provided. The presenter selected Stone Soup to cater. There was an excellent selection of muffins , pastries and cookies and an exceptional brewed coffee. 100% would recommend reaching out to Stone Soup for the next event.”
“This was always the place my parents took me to on my birthday (all the way from Fredericton). I was in Saint John for a meeting and thought I should stop for lunch and WOW was I not disappointed, without a doubt the best donair pizza I have ever had, anywhere ever. It was even better than I remember. Outstanding quality and value. So looking forward to the next time I’m in the city.”
“We are not from the Saint John area and we stumbled apon this new whiskey bar. We told our host at the door that it was our first time in and she graciously took us on a tour of the whole place. This place has an old town classy vibe with a beautiful outdoor patio. Unfortunately we were to late in the evening to order from thier delicious looking menu but the cocktails made up for that as they were delicious. The hostess was very helpful with the drink menu and recommendations. Hopscotch will definitely be our place to go when in Saint John. We can't wait to come back and try the food menu!”

“Had a couple of salmon trays and it was delicious. I have eaten sushi in many places and this was top drawer. The rice consistency temperature and flavour was perfect. The fish cuts were great and the size was perfect really well done, highly recommend, it looks like a hole in the wall, but the food is amazing.”
“This is the most interesting set up I have ever seen for a Korean restaurant! The price is very reasonable for the amount of food you get. The vegetable spring rolls are fried when you order it so it isn't sitting in oil all day. The combo meal we got was substantial with meat, rice and japchae.”

“Sarah made our wedding cake in October 2025 and we couldn't be happier to have booked her! She provided a personable consultation and taste-testing, made a cake that perfectly matched our vision for our big day, and even prepared a few gluten free cupcakes so all our guests could enjoy a treat. There was hardly any left at the end of the night! A sweet experience all around!”
“Very good service from Moses last night. our first time at Thandi but it certainly won't be the last. great atmosphere and amazing curries! we will be back”
“Called for takeout this afternoon, ordered Greek lemon chicken (my favorite) and 2 containers of chicken noodle soup. Everything was perfect, so tasty and well packaged. I love the Med!”
Cheap Eats
“Was in there to order few treats for my family and while i was there noticed another customer being extremely rude to the staff and i have to say the young girl who was helping the rude customer did an amazing job the employee remained extremely polite and kind even when the customer was raising he voice and snapping at the employee when she was just trying to do her job.You should be proud of the staff.”
“First visit to New Chinese Cuisine Restaurant off the end of Manawagonish Rd.
Wait steff greeted us and allowed us to sit where we wanted for lunch. I was actaully suprised at the size of the restaurant as I had originally thought it was takeout with a few tables. It is a moderately sized dining area which suprised me.
We were promptly brought our menus and our drinks were ordered promptly.
My wife ordered combo #4 which consisted of Egg roll, sweet and sour pork, beef broccoli and chicken fried rice and a starter of small won ton soup.
I ordered combo #1 which consisted of egg roll, sweet and sour chicken balls, chicken chiw mein and chicken fried rice. I too ordered a small won ton soup for an appetizer. As well as a diet pepsi.
The pepsi came in a can with a straw which was my only (slight) disappointment of the meal. Everything else was better than expected. Our won ton soup came with fresh veg which was al-dente (they way in should be) and the bowl, for a small, was far larger than every single other won ton soup bowl ive ever had at a restaurant, this was either a large (by mistake) or they serve their large in a mixing bowl. I had eaten a quarter of the broth before taking the picture.
Next came our egg roll. Very hot and as crispy as you can make an egg roll (the picture doesnt give it justice, I tried to show texture as best I could). Our meal was served once our egg rolls and soup were eaten, very astute of our server and she was very attentive at keeping our glasses full and our table clear.
Stew is best after it has set for a day because the flavors start to mix together and blend into that stew taste that we are all familiar with (right now I have beef or rabbit stew with a little cumin in it on the mind as I write this....now you do too...lol, let me bring you back to the restaurant) our meals didnt have that typical blended taste (you know like the special at Lynn Chow after it sat in the work fridge from yesterdays night shift and you are gokng to finish it off tonight...) these combos didnt have that, you could clearly and brightly distinguish each vegetable with the star veg holding the most pronounced note. The onions on the sweet and sour pork were powerful... and by the way, the pineapple in it was crazy good. The broccoli in the beef and broccoli was perfectly al-dente and popped, the chicken chow mien was crunchy and the rice had an excellent hint of sesame.
Our total with tip was mid $60 and we were both very full.
- Service: was among the best ive ever had in reflection (between all three North American Countries and Europe) she was just perfectly attentive and had great situational awareness. 10/10.
- ambience/atmosphere: after coming from sense of Tokyo for a gift card (where I would now give a 8/10 for ambience as they have updated their interior to reflect a far more traditional japanese feel) I would give this restaurant a 6.5/10 for ambience as it needs to be dressed up to reflect a traditional chinese feel (my opinion). Seating was comfy and the place is clean, I just like an ethnic restaurant to reflect a sense of that culture. 6.5/10.
-Food: It is among the best chinese Ive had. I dont know if it is msg or just that dang good. I didnt get an msg headache afterwards so im pretty sure its just that dang good. Veg was cooked perfectly, flavors were great and food seemed to be prepared fresh. 8.9/10
-Cant comment on the washroom, I didnt get to visit it...lol sorry for those that enjoyed the last bathroom review.
Overall 8.5/10”
“Known for its energy, Uptown Saint John is a creative hotspot. For musicians, for painters, for glassworkers, for culinary artists, to the busy workers keeping the city flowing. It's all art and expression if we love what we do. Many people make magic happen in Saint John, but Uptown brings forth both the inner beauties and dark sides of this wonderful city. We face it all, and then come to The R-Bar at night to relax and let loose. A moment to practice being who we truly are, to express our love and passion, with like minded, high energy people. The drinks are cold and neat, the lights are colorful and bright, while the music guides our flow through the night! And if you're lucky enough to have a few minutes to stop in during the day, you will not miss the creative energy. People from all walks of life find their way here to laugh, eat a bite from a local restaurant, or enjoy discussions about City Market Artists/Vendors over a table looking out onto two of Saint John's most bustling streets. All that said, it's simple to break down in one sentence. "I love OuR-Bar and all the people who walk through the doors!" ~ [ @Hapheseus ]”
“Like alot of users of this outlet we are all repeat customers. We go everyday and what is really cool about this location is there is no drive through. That means the staff get to know your name and order which creates a special dynamic .They become part of your everyday work life.Friends that make your day better. One employee Sukhpreet Kaur is especially good at this. Thanks to them all.”
“Happen to beat the restaurant on 31st December night after a long queue which was really worth waiting.
Amazing service and delicious Brazilian meat specially if you’re a beef lover.
Highly recommended place.😍”

“Absolutely amazing staff. I have an autistic son and they go above and beyond to get him to enjoy the food. The food is absolutely amazing. Price is on point. 10 out of 10 and I'm a very picky person. I have not yet been dissatisfied with anything that they've recommended or that I've tried on their menu. The place is so small and cute and so clean”
“I had an amazing experience at Lemongrass! The service was outstanding, and our server Zev went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect. The food was absolutely incredible – I had the tacos, and they were bursting with flavor. The atmosphere was beautiful, making the whole dining experience even more enjoyable. Overall, it's a 10/10 for me! I highly recommend this spot to anyone looking for great food, excellent service, and a lovely ambiance.”
“My husband and I are regulars because we know we are always going to get consistently good food for a for a reasonable price and phenomenal service. Our favourite server is Jenn. She is exceptional and remembers our orders.”

“Happy to say my friend and I went to Tipsy Tomatoe after a manicure right across the parking lot and was greeted by a friendly , polite and helpful waitress. We ordered the hamburger and fries and I must say the hamburger was the best burger I have had in years. The fries could have been a little crisper and less grease but they were tasty. Service and food was great and drinks were happy hour prices . Will definitely be back.”

“Delicious!! We enjoyed the supper buffet as a group, and it was my first time there so a great opportunity to try a little bit of everything. Loved the variety of curries and carbs to pair with it, plus all the little extras such as spring rolls, wings, noodles, and dessert. We were also the first ones to arrive for buffet so they even asked us our preffered Naan flavour and brought it right to our table.”
“Once we realized this McDonald's is only one floor, for customer use, we had no problem. Up to that point we thought it was a two story restaurant judging by outside photos on their website as well as at least one photo showing a children's play area. There is no children's play area.
Typical McDonald's food and service. Everything went perfectly smooth. Food tasted appropriate, as always. Both my lovely wife Pat and I were completely satisfied with our meals, seating and interaction with employees.
Bonus about this particular restaurant is that it is, currently, open 24 hours.”
“Had a wonderful breakfast here today! The food was cooked perfectly and staff were great ! Also, best view in the city”

“Having a place like this near by is amazing! It should have more great reviews! They sell a variety of sweet and savory treats and my family and I love them all. The service seems a tad cold at first, but don't let them fool you. They are really nice, genuine people and just want to help you out! They work really hard to put out delicious sour dough, french bread, old school donuts, cookies, muffins, croissants, and more! They also sell cheesecake from another local business from uptown. Support your local bakery before they disappear! Thank you so very much!”
“I had an excellent experience.”
