“Merle's is a gem! The space is absolutely beautiful and the cocktails are some of the best I've ever had! They have a wonderful selection of drinks, alcoholic and non-alcoholic. The staff are extremely kind, helpful and so good at what they do! The owners are great people and care deeply about the Wilkesboro community. 10/10 recommend!”
“After hearing only utmost praise for The Spice is Right, I decided on ordering lunch from them today. I arrived shortly before peak hours and ordered the Chicken Fajita Wrap. I had to wait a little longer than I initially expected, but that completely passed my mind after I was given a FULL REFUND for what the chef called "overcooked chicken." I must disagree though, the dish was fantastic. I'll definitely be returning in order to pay them back.”
“Talia’s has delicious food and drinks. It has a great atmosphere for dining, meeting with friends, reading, or doing work on the computer. I love the chicken salad croissant best. Talia’s also has art available for purchase around the cafe which is neat. Definitely a must-try!”
“Food is authentic and so good! I especially love the steak churrasco. My husband tried the ribs last night and they were great too! The family is so sweet, friendly and ready to make your visit enjoyable!”
“We meant Matt at the dog park and thought so much of him we have been wanting to get over there but health reasons would allow us! The food is the bomb and we will be back. Tell Matt that we miss Ozzie and of course him!!”
“I love this place! There food is delicious, I tell friends it’s just like eating at Granny,s! (And my Granny was the best cook). Service is always excellent ?. Now, if you are looking for fancy it’s not ! It’s an old country diner with great food, just what we were looking for, we drive about an hour one way to eat there once or twice a week.”
“I've recently been diagnosed diabetic and they have lots and lots of sugar-free options for coffee. It is my go-to spot.Dietary restrictions: Lots of sugar-free options.”
“This is the place to go! The burgers are amazing and cooked perfectly. The music is great and not too loud. There's a smell of wood smoke that adds to the amazing atmosphere. The day we were here the TVs were set to fireplaces which was a great touch. I've had Alex and Jeff for servers, and they were absolutely amazing. Don't pass it by!Kid-friendliness: They are patient with kiddos”
“I stopped at Freeborne’s as part of a ladies hiking weekend. We stayed at the lodge and ate dinner at the restaurant. The people who work here are simply the best!!! We were welcomed and made to feel right at home the minute we arrived. One of the ladies in our group fell in the parking lot and the staff (especially Diane) went above and beyond to look out after us and ensure our friend was OK. I have never met such caring people in my travels. The wonderful staff at Freeborne’s is reason enough to visit. The lodge was nostalgic — with knotty pine walls and decor. It was clean and well-maintained. It was perfect after a long day of hiking and a tent the night before. The restaurant was very comfortable and casual with absolutely delicious food. We took our servers recommendations and all had an amazing dinner (hamburger steak, potatoes, Mac and cheese, zuchinni, chili, to name a few).”
“Chappy's was amazing - I'm glad my girlfriend came across it while planning our MLK weekend out in the mountains. The man Chappy himself took our orders while telling us about his cool little bar-turned-crêperie location. Super cool atmosphere inside that I didn't expect when I first saw it from the road.We split the pesto crepe and each got a sweet crepe a piece - the smores for me and the berry for my girlfriend. Chappy was happy to customize them in any way as well. They were delicious - see photos. ?Definitely check it out if you're in the area!”
“Cute little store, nice for a visit after hiking stone mnt. I didn't try the ice cream or food. I found some of their selections sparse, perhaps it's better in the spring/summer.”
“Great spot to relax and enjoy the river. We sat outside on the deck, definitely where you want to be when the weather is nice. Great service. Dog friendly. The dog had a bowl of water and a kids burger. The humans had wine flights. The menu is small but lovely and complements the wine well. We had the pesto and turkey apple and Brie panini.”
“Lovely café with an open floor design that makes it very spacious. Delicious coffee and pet friendly! I loved spending an hour here with my dog and it was absolutely worth the half hour drive. I will definitely be ”
“This is not our first time and I usually don’t post reviews but it’s always amazing! And this time wasn’t any different! The blackened ribeye was cooked perfectly and our service was amazing!”
“Stopped in when passing through. The people working there are some of the most kind and genuine people I have ever met, salt of the earth. Oh, and the food, it was great too. Can’t wait to stop back by next time I’m in town.”
“Perfect place to take a delicious rest after greenways. We really enjoyed the hip atmosphere here and tasty bubble teas! My favorite flavor is taro which is not overly sweet but enough sweetness and flavor. This place makes your weekend afternoon extra special while exploring downtown Wilkesboro.Kid-friendliness: Open areas near the historic museum have a lot to do with sweet treats and fun”
“So I was on the way to a concert and happened to stop by this spot and I was not disappointed. The people there were super nice and friendly. Because of the show that I was going to there was a lot of people already there so they have to kind of make do and we ended up having to sit outside. But they have heaters outside so keep that in mind. Also which is really cool, they give you blankets if you're not okay with the heaters. So you can send under a heater and then have a blanket on your legs and you can be totally comfortable even if it is a little bit chilly out. Of course it's walled in by the plastic walls that restaurants put up to say that they are indoors and outdoors, but on the right type of night you can really feel the breeze so I thought that the heating lamps and the blankets were a good addition and that's a plus to them. Everybody was super nice, the lady came by who was managing and talked to us for a while. Not just a regular high and buy, actually has some real conversation. I really really liked that. It gave a humanistic feeling to us that we weren't just a table but we were people. The waitress came over and talked to us and she gave us the rundown of the whiskey's and Bourbons. What I loved about this was the fact that she asked what we normally go for and prefer and she tried to match up what we prefer to the specific alcohol on the list. So the fact that you listened to me and then came back and asked my opinion on it, it let me know that you really cared enough about your company to learn about what they serve and you care enough about the customers to learn about what I like. The presentation was great, I have no complaints about the presentation of it, I only got a drink but there was a flight on the table as well and everything was laid out to where you knew exactly what you were drinking. I got a sandwich, steak, and it was really really good. The bread was a little crispy but that crunch definitely added to the meal itself! I wouldn't do plan on going back to this spot when I'm in the area!”
“Excellent food and service. Great atmosphere for a fun meal and amazing place to relax. The staff was attentive as always and the food was served hot. Very pleased with the entire experience!”
“They are always so friendly and my order is correct 95% of the time. (we all make mistakes!) Service is always super quick. I stopped going to the "other place" when I have a 7Brew around ♡”
“My family has a place in the mountains about 45 mins from here, but this is where we exit the highway. I try to stop at Santa Lucia every opportunity I can to pick-up food on the way out there! One of the best, hole in the wall, Mexican spots I've found in N.C. You know it's good when most of the staff/patrons are speaking Spanish. I usually get a chorizo burrito (big portion, lots of meat), plus sides of queso and guacamole - both are excellent and their chips are perfection!! Having said that, I've never had anything I didn't like from here. It's unassuming and in what appears to be a converted gas station ... exactly what you want for no frills Mexican food. If you're going on a Friday evening, I suggest calling ahead. They get really busy and wait times can exceed an hour if you have a big order.”
“I had the Paco salad and enjoyed it very much! Family friendly and great service!Parking: Montes is in a shopping center and there is plenty of parking available.Kid-friendliness: There are kid-friendly options on the menu and the wait staff are willing to have the kitchen make changes.”
“Visiting from Atlanta, GA and decided to try some drinks here! IPAs are pretty good and they have a HUGE food selection. We tried the cheese sticks and it was a good portion. The flavor was delicious. Mystery Machine IPA was great!”
“Your local, "hole in the wall" restaurant. I would go out of my way to eat here. Home made Mexican style bakery. I believe they are actually el Salvadorean but great food, none the less. The pork carnitas tacos were perfect. Soft and moist in the middle and crunchy on the edges. The pupusas are perfect. If you don't like their pupusas, you don't like pupusas. Priced reasonable and speed of food was good. Get your authentic, high-quality food here.”
“I ordered a cake for a retirement party. Found out they do the designs by hand. It turned out AMAZING! And the cake was delicious. When I need an event cake, I will 100% order from here again. Much love and appreciation to the bakers and crafters at Dom.I also had the maple cinnamon roll. Y'all it was delicious. My friend was able to get a gluten-free snack as well. Thanks again for helping make a special occasion that much nicer!”
“In town for a family reunion and graduation party. Vernon's cake was outstanding, the rolls made the bbq, and the service could not have been better. We always try to buy local and Vernon's is a great local business that we highly recommend.”
“(Translated by Google) I went to see the place and just grabbed a loco corn to try the place. It's a small place, you can sit down, there are about three tables, with a decent menu. recommendable!!(Original)fui a ver el lugar y solo agarre un elote loco para probar el lugar. es lugar pequeño, se pueden sentar, hay como tres mesas , con un menú decente. recomendable!!”
“Stopped in after playing disc golf at Rolling Pines, and what a great placeEverything was awesome, and we will definitely be returning the next time we come to town.”
“This was our first time. We have had a lot of recommendations to come here but just took the drive out. We had spent the day hiking so we worked up an appetite and wanted to try several different things. We got the fried mushrooms and loaded french fries as appetizers and they were both excellent. I had the Big Jack Fried Platter and it was very good, although I would've liked more oysters. My wife and oldest daughter had grilled chicken and said it was very good. Both of them had huge pieces of chicken. My youngest daughter had a grilled chicken salad and she loved it as well. They also enjoyed their sides of homemade chips and the ranch dressing was great. Our server was very kind and kept us happy. The atmosphere is decent, it definitely feels like a hometown kind of place. We loved the booths we sat at because they reminded us of 50's themed tables and seats. Our waitress even recommended a popular dish for when we come back, so we will definitely have to come back and try the steam pot. Oh yeah I almost forgot, they bring out hush puppies with butter and they were some of the best I've ever had.Parking: Not many parking places and the parking spots are right next to the road so you have to be careful backing out.”
“We have been here a few times and the food is always amazing, the atmosphere is awesome and the staff is friendly and attentive. It’s our favorite place in Downtown Wilkesboro. (We got the Mozzarella sticks, loaded tater tots. Not pictured is the Aussie burger and Wings. The drink is the Wonky Wombat.) All was soo yummy. The cake is from an outside company. Highly suggest going here to Eat. Gather. Play”
“The best food! So yummy, and quick! The atmosphere is warm and inviting and they always treat you like family. The owner is so thoughtful and caring of her customers and always trys her best to keep her community happy. I recommend this place for all 3 meals of the day because when you're tired of cooking they definitely have some great home-cooked meals.”
