“If you’re looking for authentic Japanese ramen in Charlotte, North Carolina, Menya Daruma is absolutely worth visiting.
As a Japanese chef and restaurant owner myself, I can confidently say this is the real deal.
Located near Uptown Charlotte, Menya Daruma is the kind of ramen shop that takes ramen seriously. Parking is conveniently located right in front of the restaurant, which is a huge plus in this area.
What impressed me most were the noodles.
They are fully homemade, and the moment you take a bite, you can immediately smell and taste the wheat. The texture, aroma, and overall balance make it very clear that these are authentic handcrafted ramen noodles. You can instantly tell the difference compared to many other ramen shops.
The soup is also house-made, and even the gyoza and wontons are homemade as well. That level of detail and dedication is something true ramen fans will appreciate.
I wanted to try as much as possible, so I ate the tonkotsu ramen in the restaurant and also tried several other ramen dishes. Everything was excellent.
The tantan ramen especially stood out to me. The spices were layered beautifully and created a rich, satisfying bowl without feeling too heavy. Honestly, I think the tantan ramen would be especially great during the summer.
The atmosphere also feels very ramen-focused. Casual, but with a serious dedication to the craft rather than trying to be trendy or flashy.
If you want handmade noodles, authentic Japanese ramen, and a true ramen shop experience in Charlotte, Menya Daruma is definitely worth checking out.“

“Ohhhh how I love her Sweet Pork Belly dumplings. They have the most delectable and delicate thin wrappers with copious amount of meat that is moist and packed with flavor. Each bite is an explosion of chilling oil, onion, and five spice which plays well with the sweet pork belly. Its cute and cooked so its not greasy or crispy but succulently moist. I also order the classic Dan Dan which isn't too spicey but has a nice kick. I came during dinner and received these huge portions. I typically get the lunch portion which is more than enough to satiate my hunger. I forgot how l massive the regular portions are. I had some left for lunch the next day. Its great to share too.“

“I had lunch here on 1/7/22 and it will be my last time eating at this restaurant unless changes are made. The restaurant was slow with only us and one other table at time. A 3rd group of 3 came in with a dog. The server asked if it was a service dog and the guest replied yes and offered to go back to the car and get the dogs vest. The server said they didn't need that but made them sit by the garage door and continued to ask them questions about the dog and if they had some type of ID or card as proof. He then opened the garage door while it was 47 outside. Everyone in the restaurant was cold, one couple got up and moved and we just wrapped things up without finishing our lunch but especially that group who was now basically left sitting outside. They tried to explain what was and wasnt allowed when it came to service animals and were nice to the server and told him they understood when he said he was new and would need to ask the owner but he just kept saying this is what his owner told him he had to do and left the huge door open and everyone in the cold. They ended up leaving, then the server came around and tried to blame them for the poor treatment and said they were using offensive language.. ( the restaurant is tiny I was only 1 table away and they were very nice the whole time even when they expressed their disappointment in the way it was being handled they were not rude) This isnt the way anyone with a service dog or any sort of handicap should be treated. We wont be coming back until this place can figure out how to treat people fairly and with dignity and respect.“

“The dishes were freshly made, and you could taste it in every bite — nothing reheated, nothing bland. The flavors were balanced, vibrant, and genuinely satisfying. The menu was surprisingly broad, offering all kinds of options, from classic comfort dishes to more adventurous picks, so it was easy to find something that fit the mood.
Service matters just as much as taste, and they delivered there too. The staff was attentive without hovering, quick without rushing, and genuinely friendly. It made the whole experience feel relaxed and welcoming.
If you want a spot where good food, fresh ingredients, and solid service all show up at the table, this restaurant is worth the visit.“

“The duck and the service from Taylor was amazing! He gave recommendations and brought our food and Was very accommodating ! The duck had crispy on the outside and very juicy in the inside. The Duck bone soup was super refreshing!
The restaurant was super busy but the food was coming out pretty fast. This place has genuine authentic Chinese cuisine with so much choice! Everything about our visit was perfect, the soup dumplings were definitely a highlight. Recommend to everyone who wants to experience authentic Chinese and great service.“

“The food was good. I do feel like I was pre judged though. I asked for medium spice level and the server said it was too spicy for me and she will bring me mild - medium. It was not spicy at all to me which was disappointing. Next time I will hope they allow me to choose what I want.“

“My wife, granddaughter and I love this restaurant! We always order the green tea, garlic bok choy with rice, shrimp spring rolls, Singapore noodles, veggie, shrimp or chicken curry.
Their bok choy is the best in Charlotte! Everything we’ve ordered for the past two+ years has always been so fresh and delicious. The service provided by Jean and Shelly is always top notch too. Their restaurant is always so clean and has a stellar sanitation grade between 100 to 98!!
This restaurant is a hidden gem!!
My only very small critiques would be to please:
1. remove the tails from the shrimp and
2. remove the black film from your restaurant windows. The black film makes it look like the restaurant is dark and closed. It doesn’t look inviting from the road/parking lot.“
