“Joshua gave us great service today. The trout was the best I ever eat and the prime rib was great. Never had Fried Devil Eggs before and they were good. Without a doubt we will go back.”

“𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐑𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐞𝐰: 𝐀𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐥 - 𝐁𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐫 𝐄𝐥𝐤, 𝐍𝐂 ---- Over the past 16 years, I've been fortunate to visit 68 countries and 36 states, exploring a diverse range of cuisines and regional flavors crafted by world-renowned chefs. My passion for culinary exploration is complemented by a rigorous approach to restaurant reviews, focusing on three key criteria: Ambiance, Service, and Food. Exceptional establishments that excel in all these areas are rare, but I recently discovered one in the Southeastern US that surpassed all expectations. I aim to offer an impartial perspective, showcasing both strengths and areas for improvement. --- Ambiance: The restaurant is set in a converted barn on this large acreage of land with meticulously kept grounds and beautiful statutes. It is designed with both indoor and outdoor seating (with a beautiful creek), depending on your preferences. As you walk inside, you are greeted by this amazing horse statute made from wood and a dining space with large chandeliers hanging from the rooftop, open dining areas that allow for plenty of space between the tables, and great acoustics to enjoy a conversation while you are immersed in this culinary journey. --- Service: Impeccable. The table service was truly amazing; there was never a moment that you didn't have to worry about meeting all your needs while you chat with your spouse, friends, family, and business associates. With an open kitchen concept, we were able to see how they meticulously and strategically organize dishes as they come up on the final prep area to be delivered to tables. This was truly a well-oiled machine, with everything done in synchronization, from the kitchen to the delivery of the food at your table. --- Food: Every dish we ate was truly outstanding. I really thought hard during the dinner to see if I could find anything wrong with the taste, presentation, and quality of the food – I truly could not. Even their house rolls were amazing, soft, hot, and sprinkled with a little salt on top. We ordered the following. --- Appetizer: Burrata & Local Heirloom Tomatoes (with Roasted Corn, Sherry Vinaigrette, Arugula Roasted Pepper Purée) and 15 Layer Lasagna with Black Summer Truffles (with Oyster Mushrooms, Marcona Almonds, San Marzano Marinara) --- Table Side: Pimento Cheese Scones with Sorghum Butter and Pepper Jelly --- Main Entrée: 48 hour Short Rib (with Potato Purée, Broccoli Rabe, Sage, Sauce Bearnaise Grilled Shishito Relish) and Berkshire Pork Chop (with Brussels Sprouts, Baby Carrots, Charred Radicchio Chimichurri, Grilled SC Peaches & Golden Raisins) --- Dessert: Unfortunately, the desserts were known on the menu, and I don't recall the names or descriptions. However, you can clearly see the pictures attached. --- Normally, I would write a breakdown of each dish, but this would make the review far too lengthy. What I can tell you is that each dish was combined with the perfect combination of quality ingredients, creating an experience like no other. This was truly a 5-star Michelin star experience that was executed with precision and flawlessness.”

“Great atmosphere, food and drinks - the coffee and lemonade were wonderful!”
“This place was definitely jumping when we arrived later on a Sunday afternoon. I've been here once before many years ago and it was definitely not this busy. That's probably a great thing for them! Not as much for us though since it took awhile to even get to the front to order anything.
My husband and I both chose to order flights is 4 to try out a few things. We took our flights to the first open table we could find and listened to the live jazz band for a bit. They were great and the atmosphere of the area was also stunning. But it was simply just too busy for us to relax and enjoy, so we ultimately decided to leave after that flight and go somewhere else.”

“While in the area volunteering a group of us had dinner here. Seated pretty quickly, served quickly by a friendly server and the food was enjoyed by everyone! Would certainly recommend this business to anyone in the area! They even have a little salsa bar! The mango salsa was DELICIOUS, btw!”

“Today was our first trip to Newland. We were looking for coffee and found Big Mike’s. The shop was so cozy and the staff were excellent! As for the coffee… We got our coffee and left. I got to the car, tasted my coffee and was perplexed. My order was specific, and when I tasted it, I was sure they got it wrong. I went back inside and verified it was sugar free. Y’all. It was delicious! The best cup of coffee I’ve had in recent memory. We will definitely be back!”

“Highly recommended! Well worth the extra dime in a very quaint ice cream store in the heart of Banner Elk. The local gas station might sell cheaper stuff- come here for the real deal 🍦🍨”

“We stopped here to grab some breakfast after we delivered a shipment in Newland. My husband went in and ordered myself a bacon/egg croissant that was just like I would make..the kind ladies working made my husband an omelette with whatever he wanted per what add ons they had in stock. The atmosphere outside was so peaceful and quiet plus the coffee shop supports the Communities for Children's home. ?”

“My husband and I recently went to Banner Elk to celebrate our 13th wedding anniversary. We stopped in at The Village for a couple drinks and an appetizer. It was amazing!!! Our server was Derek and he was fantastic! This is definitely a place we will visit again. Excellent wine and food selections.”
“Great cakes, pies, and ice cream. This is the place to stop and get a dessert.
But check the hours or call to see if they’re open before you go. When we were here in June 2024, they were only open Saturday and Sundays from 1 - 5 pm.
Oh and great antiques and homemade soaps.
Also, they only accept cash or check!”
“It was absolutely amazing and peaceful. Best message I have ever had at the Spa.
Rooms: Clean and accommodating. Colonial charm.
Walkability: Everything was within walking distance of 5 to 7 minutes.
Food & drinks: The food was amazing. We tried several items and enjoyed everything. I do not typically order steak as I always seemed to get disappointed. I had the Prime NY Strip, and it was perfectly cooked and as tender and juicy as it should be. Absolutely fantastic!”
“I had a great hot dog and the best fresh chips I remember eating. They also fed my fiancée peach cider and babysat her while I played another round of disc golf ?.”

“Right on main street and very busy and small, service was good for the one server and the one cook. Pizza was good. I think it only has 6 tables so at lunch time many are turned away.”
“We stopped by on our way home to GA because we had to detour due to road closure. We were tired, hungry and give out. The owner and staff were extremely helpful, polite and gave us great instructions on getting around the road closure. Grill was closed unfortunately so we couldn't get food but everything else we bought was great. They really made us feel welcome and brightened our day which was a long, tough one. Would highly recommend stopping by and if we are in the area again, we will make it a point to stop there. Its a great little store with a bit of everything. A side note also, it was one of the cleanest bathrooms I've used on the road!”

“I would just like to say that the owner of this restaurant is a true class act and a real gem of a person. 4 days after hurricane Helene hit, I still hadn't been able to get in touch with my family, as it had wiped out cell service far and wide. One night I was out driving around, and after 30 miles, I found this restaurant and was able to hook up to their Wi-Fi. During this process, the owner rolled up, probably wondering what I was doing sitting in his parking lot in the dark in the middle of the night. When he inquired as to what I was doing, I told him that I was trying to find a way to get in touch with my family. Not only did he tell me to take all the time that I needed, he also asked me if I needed anything that he could get for me out of the restaurant, such as food, supplies, water, ice. When I told him that I did indeed need ice (as my power had been out for 4 days at this point), he went inside and brought me three bags of ice, shook my hand and wished me the best. He even told me to come back the next day and he would feed me. Thanks to his kindness, I was able to get in contact with my frantic family and let them know that I was indeed okay. In all of the chaos and horror of hurricane helene, this was one bright spot. Thank you very much, sir. You'll never know what it meant to myself and my family.”
