“We came up from Omaha for an end-of-season round of golf at the nearby Elkhorn Valley Golf Course and we stopped here for burgers on our way out of town. We appreciate the historic building and classic, almost saloon like vibe of the place and we really enjoyed our first visit. We sat at the bar and enjoyed watching and listening to long time owner Dale engage with all the locals who came in while we were there. Dale was hilarious with his jokes and overall demeanor. I could tell by all the to-go orders that we made a good choice by stopping in. When our food finally came our burgers were simple and tasty with fresh, handmade patties perfectly cooked with cheese, bacon and lots of pickles and a crazy large amount of crinkle cut fries also perfectly cooked. My Corona beers were cold and the cut limes were fresh. Aside from a slightly long wait due to the amount of orders they were dealing with, I really loved our first experience. We'll definitely make this this a regular stop whenever we're up in the area. Highly recommend!“

“Place was good. Got a cheeseburger and fries, everything tasted good except for the buns. Juicy burger and buns that taste like sand and dry your mouth out like a sponge don’t mix. Similar taste to putting used sponges on a burger. Fries were salted well but were a tad bit stale. Chicken wings were really spicy which was good. Staff was good and the atmosphere was amazing. Has good history of the area.“

“OMG, I haven't had a burger this good in a really long time! There were so many things to choose from on the menu, but I had to try the chicken fried hamburger, what a fantastic idea for a burger.... And it's comes with a side of country gravy just like chicken fried steak, how could I not try a special burger like that.... And I was not disappointed! It was wonderful, so juicy and flavorful, with the breading surrounding a hand made patty, dipped into that thick, got peppery gravy.... So, so, so good. My wife chose the mushroom Swiss Burger and tots. She couldn't finish the whole burger, it was a big Burger with lots of tots, so I got to try it. She had be reaching about it all the time we were eating, as was I about my burger, and I wasn't sure I could eat the small little sliver she had left but she gave it to me to try and, wow.... It was really as good as what I got. So much cheese and mushrooms, and the burger was perfectly cooked and seasoned. If you find yourself out near Fremont Nebraska, close to a one horse town named Nickerson, with a bar and grill named the One Horse Saloon, stop and eat.... Don't pass this place up. Btw....as we were getting ready to leave, the couple next to us ordered ribs, and I almost say back down for another meal. So many great choices.... We have got to come back here.“

“Very friendly staff. A+The food was great! Steak was cooked proper. Ordered the fried pickles for my wife. I don't really care much for them but I tried one and now I'm coming back for more.We drive past this small town almost once a week and have been doing it for years. I'm glad we stopped here.Will definitely return and bring friends.“

“To tell the truth, I didn't have real high hopes for Mel's. However, the food, service, and ambiance were all A+. I had a club sandwich and fries for about $10. The sandwich was huge and it came with a good amount of fries. It takes a little more than the average meal to fill me up but I was full after eating 3 quarters of the sandwich and most of the fries. I will go back again.“
