“My wife and I were in town for the "Beyond Van Gogh" exhibit at the Mid-America Center. Afterward, we looked up restaurants near us and chose La Sierra because several reviews mentioned authentic cuisine. We were not misled. The menu is small and straight forward. Pick your fillings and choose it in either a gordita, burrito, quesadilla or on a plate. We both got selections as gorditas. My wife ordered: Asado De Puerco, Picadillo Verde and Picadillo Rojo. I ordered: Papas Con Carne, Papas Con Chorizo and Deshabrada. I also wound up getting a burrito with Machaca. All the meats were seasoned nicely and delicious. Both the verde and rojo salsas they brought out enhanced the food. The rojo does have a kick (same sauce as in the Desshbrada) but the heat didn't linger so eating it was enjoyable. The margarita I ordered was delicious, made with real lime juice. Some people might complain because it is regular sized, served in a glass roughly the size of a martini glass. It isn't a gigantic gimmick you find in a lot of American-Mexican restaurants. It hit the spot! The fruit empanadas were lovely, the crust similar to a sugar cookie with strawberry or apricot. We tried both and thought the apricot won by a hair. Its sweet flavor was slightly stronger than the strawberry. The service was excellent, both our server and the gentleman from the kitchen (maybe owner) who brought out food to the table were extremely friendly and a pleasure to speak with. We've marked La Sierra in our "must do again" list and when we care back in Omaha, we will be stopping in.“

“Gotta give a shout out to the crew last night. This restaurant was amazing. 1st time trying it. They were so accommodating. We had a group of 16 people for graduation dinner. They worked so hard to seat us all together. They were such a friendly group. They let us all sit at the bar while we waited on our table. It was a wonderful experience dining here. “A friend came across this restaurant from a YouTuber and I decided to give it a try and man was it worth it! I had the menudo and 1 taco de azada. The menudo was rich in flavor the tripe was perfectly cooked and not super rubbery it hit home for me , it also comes with home made tortillas on the side. The beef taco itself had great flavor with a good balance of spices and seasonings, the beef was perfectly cooked as well it is on the larger size. If you are in the Omaha area or on a road trip and happen to pass by give this place a try you won’t regret it! Worth the small detour!“

I have never liked tamales and they have told me there are no good tamales in omaha...I know this was a newer spot so give them a try. I ordered 2 of each green chicken, red chicken mole chicken and she gave me a free pineapple one to try (she said I would probably like sweet ones). let me tell you I now like tamales! the boys all wanted to know where I found these and wanted more! they said BEST TAMALES IN OMAHA! Absolutely will be back. the lady who helped we was so patient with me and very sweet. I cannot wait to try more of their foods and thrilled they cater, we will be using them for sure!“

For those who consider this”Tex-Mex”!or not authentic Mexican food, I invite you to Tennessee where every “Mexican” restaurant is the same. Different names, but same tasting food. I guess what I am saying is you don’t know what you’ve got until you can’t get it. So, for this loyal customer, I consider this the best Mexican food ever. I try to recreate it at home and always take back frozen enchiladas, burritos, and even tacos, which I think would be part of my last meal!! “Server was excellent, prompt and attentive and friendly. Food was tasty, Hot and quick, so very consistent for Romeos. Eaten here for decades, starting when they were across the street. This was our go to for a good comfort food fix as we know exactly what we want and we consistently get it here. Usually we bring along a friend with special needs and never has the staff balked when he has to bring the menu to within an inch of his face to see with his magnifier nor do they freak if he has to take insulin shot at the table. Kudos to the staff for that as my husband has had to address some issues with this in other establishments. Not here. Friendly and relaxed and respectable atmosphere.“
