“My wife and I were in town for the "Beyond Van Gogh" exhibit at the Mid-America Center. Afterward, we looked up restaurants near us and chose La Sierra because several reviews mentioned authentic cuisine. We were not misled. The menu is small and straight forward. Pick your fillings and choose it in either a gordita, burrito, quesadilla or on a plate. We both got selections as gorditas. My wife ordered: Asado De Puerco, Picadillo Verde and Picadillo Rojo. I ordered: Papas Con Carne, Papas Con Chorizo and Deshabrada. I also wound up getting a burrito with Machaca. All the meats were seasoned nicely and delicious. Both the verde and rojo salsas they brought out enhanced the food. The rojo does have a kick (same sauce as in the Desshbrada) but the heat didn't linger so eating it was enjoyable. The margarita I ordered was delicious, made with real lime juice. Some people might complain because it is regular sized, served in a glass roughly the size of a martini glass. It isn't a gigantic gimmick you find in a lot of American-Mexican restaurants. It hit the spot! The fruit empanadas were lovely, the crust similar to a sugar cookie with strawberry or apricot. We tried both and thought the apricot won by a hair. Its sweet flavor was slightly stronger than the strawberry. The service was excellent, both our server and the gentleman from the kitchen (maybe owner) who brought out food to the table were extremely friendly and a pleasure to speak with. We've marked La Sierra in our "must do again" list and when we care back in Omaha, we will be stopping in.“

“Since moving to Omaha from Southern California, we have been searching for a place that serves authentic Mexican food. We finally found it in Los Portales! Homemade tortillas, enchilada sauce, tamales, etc... Everything was on point. Not sure why Omaha has such generally terrible Mexican food, but so glad that we found Los Portales. The interior is nothing fancy, but the food is great!!!“

“Excellent food and drinks! Laid back atmosphere, super friendly employees! We had the Carne Asada…very tender, moist and extremely flavorful. We also had shrimp tacos. Hands down the best shrimp tacos I’ve ever had. Shrimp was cooked to perfection. We’ve also had their mixed seafood ceviche, high quality seafood and again, extremely flavorful. Highly recommend“

“I moved to Tennessee 24 years ago and the GI forum is my first stop every time I come back. I have been eating there for almost 50 years and I crave it. For those who consider this”Tex-Mex”!or not authentic Mexican food, I invite you to Tennessee where every “Mexican” restaurant is the same. Different names, but same tasting food. I guess what I am saying is you don’t know what you’ve got until you can’t get it. So, for this loyal customer, I consider this the best Mexican food ever. I try to recreate it at home and always take back frozen enchiladas, burritos, and even tacos, which I think would be part of my last meal!! Thanks, GI Forum for all the great food and memories during the last half century. Please stay open! And, if possible, I would really like to know what you season your ground beef with and how to make your hot sauce. Please????“

Later that night I went for $103 meal which was a four course meal, and honestly I preferred this $9 meal. That's why I figured I'd give it a five-star rating because this is great comfort food for a fantastic price
I did also get the 4 dip combo. That was a four-star item.
The inside isn't the most welcoming a place, so the atmosphere is a bit low on the rating. But if you're craving this kind of Mexican food, this is a great place to go.“

“I highly recommend this restaurant! We got asada tacos, papusas, and mulitas - all of it was so delicious! The mulitas were especially good with lime, and the tacos were perfect with their hot salsa.

“Cute and delicious little doughnuts! Online ordering was very easy, and the doughnuts were ready at the promised time. We tried several flavors and our favorites were the cinnamon sugar and the lemon blueberry. When we picked up, they even gave us several extra cinnamon sugar ones "for the road." The kids are already asking when we can return!“

Finally, the owner and wait staff are very friendly and welcoming. It’s one of my favorite restaurants! You have to go there!

Wheelchair accessibility: The restaurant is almost level with the sidewalk. There is a slight incline going into the door. Often, someone will hold the door open for you.“
