50 Best Italian Restaurants near Englishtown

“We have been to Nonna's many times and have always enjoyed the food and service. Today, my wife, daughter and I went to celebrate our 51st anniversary expecting to have a delicious dinner as usual. Although the food was excellent as always, the service was not! The waitress Melissa took our order and never saw her again until we were almost finished eating and had to wave to her to get more water. A man brought our bread and butter, another man brought our meals, and cheese etc. and that went well. It should be noted that Melissa never once came back to our table to see if the food was ok or if we needed anything. When she brought the water, she asked if we wanted desert, to which we declined. Another lady came and asked if we wanted our leftovers wrapped whereas she took our plates and returned immediately. Melissa dropped off the bill and walked away, and we never saw her again. We had some questions about the administration fee, because we were paying cash, but there was no one to ask so we just paid the bill, left the folder on the table and left, again, no one was around. When we were seated, there was a small party at a table near us, but they left long before we were ready to leave, so I cant understand why no one even came to our table, since by that time there were only about three tables of diners. Sorry I had to write this response but we were very unhappy with this dining visit. Like I said earlier, we have previously had great service and hope our next visit will be great. Thank You.“

“Been there for lunchs dinners and just drinks. great family place. friendly staff. amazing food. ordered a few trays for christmas eve. was like made at home.“

“Most amazing subs I’ve ever had, treated with complete respect. I had wings, fries, pickles, Philly steak, and Philly chicken. Taking the first bite it was mouth watering. Thank you!“

“Last weekend we had my baby shower here & the staff, service & food was just exceptional. I will always recommend this place to anyone looking to have dinner OR a party. The staff was on top of everything. I did not have to worry about a thing they took care of everything. It was just a beautiful shower. Thank you aunt butchies we will be back for our next event!“

“Stopped in on a rainy Thursday night and we couldn't have been happier with the choice. Cozy little Italian restaurant with a fair amount of seating. The waitress was friendly and helpful without being overbearing. And the food was excellent. Their slices were very good, the stuffed shells were great, and my wife enjoyed the cheesesteak. And I have to say their fries were outstanding. Well worth a stop for an affordable meal.“

“Just had my daughter’s 8th birthday at Carlo’s Gourmet Pizzeria and it was such a hit! Not only was the food delicious, the room was beautiful! Matt was absolutely wonderful to work with and very accommodating when I wanted to bring in another vendor to keep the girls entertained in addition to the pizza making. Matt was well prepared to teach the girls how to make their own pizzas from scratch and able to keep them engaged the whole time! He was on top of every detail making sure everyone had whatever they needed. On our way out my daughter said it was the best birthday she ever had! I’m not one to usually write reviews but I couldn’t go without acknowledging what a great local business to support! Thanks again!“

“My mother and I wanted to try something new and different. We were in the area and saw this place and decided to pop in and get lunch, we were welcomed warmly and seated pretty quickly. The waitress told us about the special that had a 12in pizza with garlic knots and was affordable. Food was delicious and perfectly filling for a quick lunch. I would 100% recommend this place and would eat here again.“

“Owner should learn how to treat customers We were a party of four and we arrived on time for a 7:45 reservation. When we arrived there were many people waiting to be seated. We were told that the wait would only be 10 - 15 minutes. Fifteen minutes later we were told that the wait would be an additional 10 - 15 minutes. A half hour later my wife was told that the wait would only be another 10 - 15 minutes. After 45 minutes I requested to speak with the owner and I was told that I was speaking with the owner (at that point there was only one other group waiting to be seated). They informed me that a group of six with an 8:00 reservation was just seated. I said that it was not fair to make us wait 45 minutes since we did have a reservation and the people with a later reservation were just seated. I said that I may have something to say about it after the meal. The reply was "if you have something to say, say it now"! I replied that I would reserve my thoughts until after the meal. How insulting, imagine waiting over 45 minutes and then being told if I had anything to say I shouldn't wait till after my dinner, that I should say it now. I replied that I would wait till after the meal before I had any additional comments. With that we were refused service and we were told to leave. I am a 75 year old retired veteran and in my life I was never treated in this manner. When we grew up we had more respect for others. This is not how customers should be treated.“

“The BEST! Always a wonderful experience. Great food, great service and an amazing atmosphere. A feeling of being in Italy.🇮🇹 Our favorite place to eat. And the owners Mike & Ro are always so pleasant and accommodating.“

“After our favorites restaurants Il Nido and Covo permanently closed we had been looking for Italian place that does not fit into Italian American culinary pattern of chicken parmesan, spaghetti with meatballs and galamad:) La Lupa fits the bill. I’m giving it overall five stars with few things for improvement. Food: the most important thing in the restaurant. We had tuna crudo - 7/10 (tasty, tender, fresh but a bit bland, lacking flavors), burrata 10/10 (simply fantastic just like in Puglia), focaccia 10/10 (more like bruschetta), pasta BUCATINI AMATRICIANA 10/10 (perfect, al dente), olive cake for desert 9/10 (interesting flavors, moist, moderately sweet), espresso and americano both 2/10 (terrible, watery, nothing close to real Italian espresso).
Service: simply outstanding,, polite, friendly, attentive without being annoying.
Ambience: 8/10. It was too dark, could not see the menu. Music was too loud, it was difficult to communicate. Otherwise atmosphere was good, tastefully decorated interior.
We will be back with friends. I hope they fix the coffee by that time.“

“Food is excellent, amazing selection of specials and all that we had was so delicious! Pizza is by far the best pizza around! It’s cooked perfectly and flavors are just amazing! Staff were all terrific and make you feel like part of their family. Definitely returning and brining family and friends and letting everyone know about it!“

“Stopped by with my teen son for a quick bite because he said the place was good. Nice and clean, clear menu, friendly workers, and most importantly, their sub was quite good. I had the Italian and enjoyed the meat-to-sandwich ratio. They had hot pepper relish too which is always a plus for a sub shop. They understood the assignment! Will be back again.“

“The food and service was second to none. The staff very attentive not over bering. A comfy cozy atmosphere. The restaurant is BYOB this is a plus. The portions are perfect size. I can't find enough good to post.“

“Yesterday we had a Luau/Pool party at our new Toll RegencyFreehold Community .. we explained to Frank we had a very bad experience with a previous caterer and he promised us we would be pleased and not to worry. Well, we weren’t just pleased, we were excited and we all felt DAngelos far exceeded our expectations. The compliments kept flowing during the party… the service, setup and food was AMAZING!! Thank you Frank for an awesome job! We can’t wait to call you for our next event!!“

“We had a wedding shower today. To say we were beyond thrilled is an understatement. Everything was absolutely perfect from the staff to the food. I could not have asked for a better day and I cannot recommend them more. I will definitely do future events with you. Thank you guys so very much for absolutely everything!!!!!!“

“Great food and great staff“

“Thank you for hosting an amazing After Pass for my family and friends! The tables were set up beautifully as we arrived. The food came out in courses, hot and fresh. We are traditional Italian cooks by heritage, and we could not get over the incredible meatballs! They made the chicken piccata with just the right amount of lemon and capers. The last course was an assortment of Italian mini desserts that were scooped up in a matter of minutes!! The only complaint we had was the chef would not part with the meatball recipe. Thank you again JoAnne and Frank for a memorable ending to my mom's end of life celebration.“

“Emilio’s new Bar Pie is hands down the best Bar Pie that I’ve ever eaten. It’s handcrafted and the crust is perfection. I wouldn’t go anywhere else!!“

“We just had my daughter’s first birthday here and it was absolutely perfect! The pricing was very reasonable, especially for everything that was included. The salad, pizza, and appetizers were delicious—all of our guests kept complimenting the food. Jackie truly took care of everything from start to finish, which made the entire experience stress-free and enjoyable. The space was also beautifully decorated for Christmas, adding such a cozy and festive touch to the celebration. We couldn’t have asked for a better place to celebrate such a special milestone. Highly recommend!“

“One of the best halal pizzerias in NJ! The food is amazing, especially the wings and the blackened chicken — full of flavor and cooked perfectly. I love supporting this place because it’s family owned, and you can really tell they care about their customers and the quality of their food. Great service, great atmosphere, and definitely a spot I’ll keep coming back to!“

“Had a slice with sausage and onion love the sauce , pizza wasn’t over powering with cheese was able to taste all the flavors of the sauce , workers very friendly and professional asked me how i liked it 🙂 I will be back“

“I recently ate at Cumin N Eat, and honestly, the food completely lived up to the hype.

From the moment the dishes came out, you could tell everything was made fresh and with real attention to flavor. The spices were perfectly balanced—not too overpowering, but still packed with that rich, authentic taste that makes you want to keep eating even when you’re full. Every bite had depth, and you can tell they don’t cut corners when it comes to ingredients.

But the highlight for me had to be the wings. They were absolutely amazing—crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and coated in a sauce that had the perfect mix of flavor and heat. Not too spicy, not too mild—just right. They were easily some of the best wings I’ve had, and I’d go back just for those alone.

Overall, Cumin N Eat is definitely a spot worth checking out if you’re in New Jersey. Great flavor, great quality, and food that actually leaves an impression.“

“great pizza and welcoming“

“Usually don’t write reviews but felt like I needed to for this place. Was skeptical at first because it seemed pretty hole-in-the-wall but the food is impeccable. We got the Hollywood Pasta (which came with a salad) and we built our own Meatball and Pepperoni Pizza. They are also so kind and friendly. They have about 5 tables if you are planning to dine-in. If we lived locally, we would definitely come back frequently!“
