“Upon entering the DD, I got a welcoming sense as the place was clean and I was addressed promptly. My reason for giving them a four-star rating is because one of the two drinks I ordered through their drive-through was incorrect. Upon speaking with the associate, I was met with an attitude inappropriately displayed. It took the shift manager to de-escalate the tension and correct the order. I would not say that I sensed an overall negative vibe, just that it’s not what you say to people, it’s how you say it sometimes. Attitudes should be excluded from professionalism. The drinks are amazing.“

“My wife’s birthday was this past week. The only thing she asked for was a cake from Turquoise! And that’s what she got. The fluffiest, sweetest Red Velvet cake and Cream Cheese. Decorated to perfection! I’m trying to post a photo or two but the app won’t allow it. Oh well… take my word for it. Delicious.“

“Pulled into Milk Crate Coffee off Route 70 in Lakewood the other morning to knock out some work and grab a quick fix. From the outside, the building has a funny setup that looks like an old hotel converted into a business park, with the shop taking over what probably used to be the main lobby and dining hall.

Inside, though, the vibe is totally unique. They have retro light fixture setups, art on the walls, and cushioned curved benches near the front. They even have lightbulbs on the ceiling that spell out the word coffee in massive six foot letters over the main room, which I did not even spot until I looked up directly at the lights. Even the bathroom has a bright pink neon sign on the wall, so they definitely leaned into the quirky decor.

When it comes to the actual coffee, these guys know what they are doing. I love that you can pick your own single origin beans and have them make a custom pour over right then and there. I went with a Honduran light roast, and it hit the spot while I sat at a table with my laptop. The staff was knowledgeable, and happy to chat about the coffee options, if you find one of the employees that knows coffee very well.

To go with the brew, I grabbed a chocolate chip scone. Now, the coffee was pretty solid, but the scone was average at best. It had that boxed, reheated feel to it rather than fresh baked from scratch. That said, plenty of people around me were ordering hot meals that looked really good, so it seems like a popular local hangout for a full breakfast.

All in all, Milk Crate Coffee is a cool, comfortable spot to set up camp for an hour, enjoy a well made pour over, and take in the eccentric surroundings. I would definitely swing back by for the coffee alone.“

“So, we’re from boston and are visiting my son. Not too much to choose from around here in terms of restaurants. But suddenly I see a sign Minas Grill and went in just because of the word grill. It’s Brazilian! My heart is singing! Great coffee, the food is like home cooked. Loved the cheese bread and you can shop here too! Lovely warm people and so helpful! So we’ll be back while we’re here.“

“We were invited to the friends and family breakfast the day before opening. We were all absolutely floored by this place and have already made a new tradition to come every sunday! The wait staff and INCREDIBLE, they are so sweet and so speedy! They were so considerate, turned the fire place off for us, and talked with our kids. The restaurant is clean, calm, almost beachy feeling. The most important...the food was absolutely amazing AND at an incredible price. The portions are large and VERY affordable, while looking and tasting like high end breakfast. This place makes you feel rich, and will thankfully not give your bank account the bill.“

“All my coffee beans come from Rook! Some of my coffee mugs, too. I have the kind of machine that grinds whole beans before pouring. Rook's Nicaragua and Guatemala are favorites. The staff are all so friendly. Lots of locations, too.“

“Stopped by The Caffeine Haven on a Saturday morning and found a solid local spot to grab a coffee. Traffic along Route 9 was light, but this place seems like a convenient stop for anyone driving through Howell during a busy weekday commute.

I ordered a standard latte and it was made very well. The whole milk foam was steamed perfectly, resulting in a rich texture that had a natural sweetness to it. On a total impulse buy at the counter, I picked up a slice of their banana chocolate chip loaf from the pastry display. That turned out to be delicious and fresh.

They have a menu full of creative signature drinks that look interesting. While waiting, I noticed a couple of the baristas making one of the specialty options and commenting on how good it is themselves, talking about how good it came out. I am usually a bit cautious about how much sugar goes into those fancy specialty drinks, but I will probably try one on my next visit.

This is a very cool, comfortable spot with great coffee and quick service. It is well worth the trip if you need a reliable morning caffeine fix.

One other thing to add. They also sell their custom coffee blend in fresh roasted bags Ina a small merchandise shelf with shorts and fresh cut flowers as well.“

“I purchased a new Jura ENA 8 from 1st In Coffee. I'm absolutely delighted in every way! This machkne is a magical piece of technology. It makes all coffee drinks PERFECTLY. I have a Gaggia Classic and could never make an espresso drink as good as the Jura. AND its fully automatic. It's truly impressive. Before pulling the trigger, I called some dealers. I was most impressed by Jim at 1st.
He was polite, patient, and he answered all my questions. The machine arrived within a few days in 100% perfect condition. This is an authorized Jura dealer for the last 22+ years. I called Jura Inc. and they confirmed this. Jura Inc. wasn't anywhere near as helpful as 1st! The actual manufacturer! I feel comfortable dealing with this company and look forward to doing business with them again for coffee and supplies.“

The biggest con about this location is the exhaust in the space is absolutely awful. There is a constant cloud of smoke from their cooking in the kitchen and it doesn’t properly exhaust out of the space. You will 100% leave smelling like fried food and it will be on your clothes, hair, etc the whole day. I almost had to walk out the other day because my eyes were tearing. Also, many people come in here to work on their laptops which is fine but if you are coming to meet a friend for coffee and chat, there most likely won’t be any seats. If you can grab one of the few seats outside, I would go for that.“

This adorable cafe is a trailblazer in community involvement, providing training and jobs for our special needs community!!!
