The host Chris wished me a happy birthday upon our arrival and we were even given a menu with "Happy Birthday" printed on it. What a kind gesture, right? We were shown out to the gorgeous string lit terrace with heat lamps and beautiful greenery everywhere. We were given champagne on the house and delicious sourdough bread. Erin our server was so sweet and genuine it felt like we were regulars although it was our first time there. “Hershel's East Side Deli is located near the center of the Reading Terminal Market, and was quite busy when I went, although it was Saturday around lunch time so that's to be expected. Great service across the board, was met with a smile by everyone I interacted with despite the crowds. Getting to the main attraction, the pastrami sandwich is out-of-this-world delicious. One of the best sandwiches I've ever had. I originally thought the price ($17) was a bit much, but it is well worth it for the experience and the portion size was so large I easily made two full meals out of it.“

“My boyfriend and I had stopped for lunch and explained to the woman at the front it was our first time and she came around and explained the whole menu to us. She was very helpful and polite explaining everything, food was ready fast. They have a really nice seating area upstairs. Lots of sun and artwork. I had a toffee nut latte which was disappointing. The espresso was burned and the latte didn't have much flavor. The bagel sandwich on the otherhand was delicious! A nice soft everything bagel with real egg and sausage. Very tasty. I will probably try it again at some point to give the coffee another shot.“

Pizza here tends to usually be on the doughy / thicker / floppy side yet is still oddly “thin crust” style? It has a bit of an identity crisis. It can plausibly crack a top 10 pizza in Philly on a good night depending on your preference but it wouldn’t grab a top 5.“

Stopped by this inside-of-the-whole-foods location for a Saturday lunch to-go and am so glad I finally did! I went with the falafel sandwich with plain tahini sauce and was, unsurprisingly, totally blown away by how delicious, colorful, and flavorful these falafel were. The pita was the perfect lunch size and priced for inflation at $12. I want to go back very soon and try one of the tehina shakes, since I've heard those are can't miss. The team here was great and I'm so glad to have local awesome options inside of the store. I think I'll prefer one of the other sauce options (looking at you harissa), but that's for a future trip.
