“If you grew up eating chicken over rice at halal carts in the city only to go vegan later in life you've experienced the extreme disappointment that comes with ordering falafel over rice without white sauce. It's a tragedy and a reason never to visit a halal cart again. Not at Sam's. Here the falafel is king and the platter is a shrine to the balls of chickpea. The sides and sauces all pack a punch of flavor and keep you coming back for more. The guys who work the cart are really sweet too. These falafels occupy a place in my heart.“

“This is hands down the most authentic middle eastern food you can get in New Jersey. The quality of the food is out of this world; feels like a meal you would have at someone’s grandmas home. The prices are more than fair for the quantity and the quality of the food you are served. The menu is diverse and has various options to choose from (good for even the pickets of eaters). The service is also outstanding. The team is very hospitable and dietary restrictions such as allergies very seriously, ensuring you have a comfortable, stress free dining experience. This is hands down the best restaurant I have ever been to in New Jersey and has truly become a staple amongst my friends and I.“

“I know this place just opened, but I extremely highly recommend. A few of my friends came to eat here and so I decided to give it a try. Walking in, I was surprised how there was literally no one there but a ton of workers which I guess was great for me as they were super attentive. I was a bit surprised by the prices were pretty high for something that was supposed to be take-out, but the minute they start making the shawarma, I knew why it was more expensive. I ordered the Chicken Shawarma platter and it was delicious! Perhaps one of the best shawarmas I've had in the city. First of all, they gave us a platter just for all the toppings, did I mention that they are unlimited, that they had. Sometimes the toppings don't have that much flavor, but each one was very complex and flavorful. The chopped salad was light and fresh which balanced out the finely chopped pickles which added a sour taste. The red cabbage slaw which was slightly savory and slightly sour balanced out the onions that had a slight charred on it. I was so delighted by all the different toppings, which is where I think the place definitely shines. The chicken itself was okay, tender but not crazier than normal. Overall, I had an amazing experience and especially with the portion sizes, the platter could easily feed a family of 4 with additional leftovers. I think it will take me at least 6-7 meals before eating it all but I did add some of my own rice to counteract the bounty of flavors. I will say that they don't automatically give you the rice or the fries so big reminder to ask them for that when you come.“

“All of these old school Gyro shops are closing their doors. Proper Greek gyro on the pit, very fresh, delicious, quick and for a fair price. Worth the trip down from Mahwah now and again. The staff is very friendly and the place is small and very clean.“

I'm a huge fan of Middle Eastern, North African and South Asian food. “The koshary here is really really good (and vegan!), possibly my favorite meal in Jersey City. (it's a large portion of lentils, chickpeas, rice, and noodles mixed together, with multiple sauces to mix in that really make the dish - only available on Saturdays). The five stars are for the koshary, but the falafel is pretty good too - it's covered with coriander seeds that give it a good flavor (though the accompaniments the falafel comes with in the pita or plate are nothing special).“

“Very delicious and clean food. Food comes out quick but not too quick so you know it's fresh and good quality. Pastries are pretty good too. Service is fantastic everyone is very attentive and kind and helpful. The only thing about this place is that it's a little pricey. Besides that, the food location and service is great so if you are past spending anywhere from 20-40 for a full meal then you can enjoy a great lunch. I don't drink anything besides water so I cant say anything about their drinks.“

“Shawarma sandwich what a nice pairing of very fresh tasting veggies with creamy sauce, nice chunks of lamb, and a soft/chewy pita. The falafel was crispy and airy and moist on the inside with excellent seasoning and sides of hot sauce and white sauce. “The last time I passed by the bright green food truck parked on the corner of 31st and Ditmars, I had just eaten a massive meal at Hamido's but I made a mental note to return because the food smelled so good even from across the street. I recently was able to return, with an empty stomach, to try the King of Falafel & Shawarma. The vendor greeted me with a falafel to try, and I immediately noticed it was oval shaped. It did taste significantly crunchier, which I am attributing the larger surface area to, and the spices were fantastic. I had my heart set on trying their kefta but unfortunately by the time I arrived late Saturday evening, they were out of everything except their chicken and falafel, so I had a platter of that instead ($12). My plate was absolutely packed and smothered with their white sauce (highly recommend the red sauce as well as it packs a subtle punch), and the salad was a very welcome addition to the rice and mound of marinated and shaved chicken shawarma. There is so much flavor packed in every single bite, and the way the chicken was marinated definitely sets it apart from other shawarma carts I've tried thus far. Everyone I spoke to, including the other patrons waiting for their order, had only amazing praises to sing for KoF and I can easily understand why. I'm very happy to discover that they also have a truck on 53rd and Park, as Astoria is a bit of a trek for me.PS- An update: I have now finally managed to sample their chicken and beef shawarma, as well as their kefta too. My favorite still remains the chicken shawarma, which edges out the beef because it remains juicer and better marinated. I found the kefta a little too dry for my preference and it lacked that smoky grilled flavor. If you are going to order one thing, get their chicken or chicken and falafel platter with white sauce, red sauce, and extra tahini. And maybe a side order of falafels (4 for $3 to munch on the way home).“

“I was there the other day, I like my shawarma without many bells and whistles, I really like the red pickled turnips, a few pickles, Hummus (NO tahinie - it's do dominant of a flavor) and a touch of hot sauce. I was disappointed observing no turnips, my #1 condiment. Imagine my surprise when he brought me the sandwich and the welcomed sight of turnips was there, yay!! amazing service, the meat was just right, tangy, fresh and delicious, although not an option on the menu, I asked for a chicken / lamb mix and received exactly what I asked for!Calm relaxed atmosphere, simple yet welcoming. “Not just great pizza... there's so much on the menu! Our favorite: Teddy's Moroccan vegetarian cigars with his incredible homemade hummus on the side. (Warning: after tasting this hummus, you will never be able to eat store-bought hummus again!) He also makes and bottles his own hot sauce, Tadmore, which is excellent! “What a find ...am picky but this place checks all the boxes be it flavor , cleanliness, fresh, friendly staff, portion size and by the way fries are just amazing . Yes the meat did felt a little bit chewy but am sure the team is working on it and get there soon .. hoping to get there soon again.“

“10/10 for the fries, but wouldn't call home for the falafel sandwich. Ba'al Cafe is a tiny shop serving up falafel sandwiches, fries and other Mediterranean style foods. The fillings for the sandwiches were delicious, but the pita was lacking. Unfortunately their pitas aren't made fresh and are store bought. On the other hand, the za'atar were so delicious!! If you're a fan of crispy and flavorful fries, this is your place to go!! The staff here are also super nice, but it does take a while to get your food. We went on a Saturday and there were only 3 employees working. Plus they were missing a lot of dishes from the menu, which was a bummer. I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here. But if you're in the neighborhood looking for a cheap bite, this is a solid place. Also keep in mind there's very limited seating. You might find it easier to order takeaway rather than dine in. Must try: Za'atar fries The damage: for 3 sandwiches and fries the total was around $30! Hard to find a meal this cheap and filling in NYC“
