26 Best Japanese Restaurants near Somerville

“Great very fresh sushi a small out of the way place that is a gem.. We found this place about 2 years ago and haven't gone to another sushi restaurant in our area since...“

“We walked into this place last minute on a Friday night to celebrate my birthday since another sushi place had been unable to accommodate gf. We could not have stumbled upon a better experience! Elan at the sushi bar made us a custom omakase tasting all gluten free and so delicious. He was friendly, knowledgeable, and really created a one of a kind meal while making us feel special and taken care of. We ended up with about 15 different courses i believe all fabulous and ended with a special ice cream sushi dessert. Best part was it’s been a bit since we ended and i still feel great, stuffed but i can tell it was celiac safe! We will definitely be back!“

“So I've never been much of a sushi person, but my last trip here with friends changed my mind on that so now I'm locked in sushi mode ! I really like the all you can eat aspect so I can sample a little bit of everything and I really enjoyed my Seafood Udon, mackerel and crab sashimi, Edison rolls and more ! Want to come here soon !“

“Nice variety of foods for 1 complete price, and quite tasty“

“We celebrated a family birthday at Yutaka Hibachi in Somerville, and it was an unforgettable experience! The chefs are incredibly skilled and entertaining, making the meal both delicious and fun. Everyone in our group was impressed by the quality of the food—from perfectly cooked steak and shrimp to fresh sushi and tasty fried rice.“

“Everything was SO delicious ❤️“

“This place exceeded expectations. 100/10. I really enjoyed this quiet, clean restaurant. The food was exceptional and everything my partner and I ordered came out amazing. Portions are very big, the quality of meat is a 10/10, the broth taste incredible with lots of veggies, and the prices are reasonable. I will 100% be back here. Great experience, thank you.“

“excellent food. Best sushi and hibachi rice“

“The food tasted great. In the soup there were different tastes and textures. This made it interesting. Service was quick. The presentation of the food was very nice. Staff was friendly.
The atmosphere is not bad but it can be improved.“

“Have been there so many times with friends, families and my kids. My kids love the traditional Taiwanese noodles, and I love their Japanese rolls. The cozy ambiance and friendly staff add to the overall dining experience, making it our favorite go-to restaurent! Love this place.“

“My favorite Japanese restaurant! The food and service are exceptional!“

“fresh food and friendly staff.“

“Outstanding food and very friendly staff ~ highly recommend!“

“I ordered salmon with scallops. Got a small piece of salmon with 5 scallops. Entree was around 48 dollars. Also got charged for empty wine glasses for BYOB. They added a whopping 20% gratuity on top. Talk about nickel and diming. The chef was trying hard to entertain over the hibachi station but needed a lot of practice. I think the place overcharges for what they deliver.“

“The place is small but the food is AMAZING!! Love the ninja theme they put around the place. Will definitely come back more offten.“

“I tried vegan specialty Mango Tango roll, it was awesome tasty & excellent. The Ginger & Wasabi was very fresh. The taste was amazing, but it'd be nice if they have little bigger portion

Vegetarian options: They have vegan normal & specialty rolls“

“Always a gem! I work in Hboro and come here multiple times a month for their sushi lunch special. Delicious salad and miso soup with three rolls. I've had pretty much each roll on their menu and they have all been delicious. Lastly, Lee's has been a family owned business for many, many years. Please support small businesses!“

“Amazing fresh sushi and wonderful staff. Was amazed by the freshness and value. Will be back soon for sure.“

“Always fresh! Owners are wonderful people’“

“Enjoyed Aikou for a girl's lunch with my sister-in-law. We found them attentive and punctual with service, as well as considerate with refilling water, clearing used plates, and providing clean replacements for our shared lunch without us needing to ask. The place was clean and decently spacious to maneuver my wheelchair, with comfortable seating options and simple decor. The noise level became a little loud acoustically when more people arrived, but it wasn't overwhelming and we could have a conversation comfortably. The food was freshly prepared and well-made with good quality ingredients, and they were able to accommodate my food allergies without trouble.“

“First time here. Young lady at register was super friendly. Convinced me to try to chicken teriyaki when I wasn't sure what to grab. I think Mia was her name. Young spanish girl. It was delicious. Hot and fresh. Would return. Nice vibe. Friendly staff. Appreciated the help!“

“I love their garlic shrimp with scallops menu item. I always get it for take-out. I have eaten at least 20 of them. There is a problem with their packaging. They put the food into a white plastic container that ALWAYS leaks. The container is not water-proof. They put the white container into a brown bag and put that into a plastic bag. The sauce leaks from the white container through the brown bag and into the plastic bag. When I open the white container, I get sauce from the bottom of the container all over my kitchen counter and have a mess to clean up. I have seen other take-out containers and NONE of them ever leak. This business needs to get a liquid-proof or water-proof container to put the food in so the sauce does not leak out. Wake up please!!!!!!!!!!!

I ordered a take-out today July 31, 2024 and was surprised to see they have a new container that, when held upright, does not leak. One good step in the right direction. I wish they would go one more step and use a truly watertight container. Many restaurants use waterproof containers so an even better type of container does exist.“

“good sushi“

“Food was 4.5, just missing 5 due to some missing touches, spicy scallops roll was not spicy and wasabi tuna dumplings were missing wasabi.

With this said the sushi and sashimi was excellent and no reason to not return time and again!

Service is kind, attentive, and professional“

“I came in this past weekend, (March 2026). I was eating very fresh sushi, rolls sashimi, the place is clean the service was exceptional. i was eating LOBSTER, so delicious. management was nice. I offered a suggestion of a lobster fork. I usually feel a bit weird after I go to buffets, but the food here to me was exceptional, and for $31.00 for a drink. per person. awesome. not many "filler foods" . neat and organized OCD“

“Great service with amazing food. Bianca the waitress is very friendly and super fast“
