“Shockingly good food and very authentic. The grilled meats are great. The macaroni salad served with some of the meals was unexpected but welcome. Ordering can be difficult due to language issues and because they were very busy. However, they were helpful and patient. Overall, glad I stopped here while in town.“

“Vegetarian options: I could live on pico de gallo so a friend who lives in Trenton recommended this establishment. I live 40 minutes away and holy guacamole it was worth the trip. I ordered a quart amount of pico and the y were puzzled but accommodating. I ate almost all of it and the spices were spot on. No jalapeño and the perfect amount of lemon cilantro salt and pepper!! No need to add salt as it was perfect!!! I will be returning frequently unless you are willing to share recipe!!“

“True authentic Guatemalan food & bakery. My dad always orders from here and the portions are gigantic and the prices are low. It's so difficult trying to find good Guatemalan food or restaurants however this spot offers a very large selection of baked breads and a buffet. The bakery does not offer sit down seating, only takeout. And the tamales are a must try. They have large tamales and little ones but I can't resist buying the large size. Staff is very friendly however the location is not in the safest of areas (probably best to go during the day & not at night). If you're in the area and are looking for Guatemalan tamales you have got to come here!“

Nuevo Chapala Restaurant & Lounge Latin American • $
273 Morris Ave, Trenton

“Adopting the identity of a sports bar and restaurant, Chapala II is still basically a two room suite, with beer and tequila in front and dining room in back next to the kitchen. It is a casual space with minimal decor aside from the HDTV high on the wall doing a Spanish version of sports television. When I walked in Friday afternoon for a late lunch, the main door was wide open, but there was no one inside. Still, the tube was showing an American football game with low volume commentary. Stepping over to the kitchen, there were two women getting ready to prepare something and I inquired whether I was in time for almuerzo. I was, indeed. One of the ladies pointed to a table and brought a menu for consideration. She explained that this was a Guatemaltecan casa and that she was the chef. I was talking to the right person. I didn't want a big meal, saw the quesadillas listed and requested them con pollo and horchata. She seemed pleased with my choice. Moments later the other woman delivered chips and salsa. Nothing special there. The quesadilla on the other hand was quite good. It was loaded with chopped chicken, cheese, pepper and onion and served seconds after taken out of the hot steel. The tortilla was crisp, with the runny cheese grilled firm from contact with the pan. The innards were a delicious gooey mess. It was so thick that it was almost quesadilla pie! About the best I've tasted. I should have stopped half way through, it was so filling, but I did not think that reheating would capture how great it was the first time. So, I skipped dinner and walked farther last night. The horchata came in a large mug used for draft beer. It was cool, semi-sweet with a hint of cinnamon and perfect as a washdown for the spicy main dish. Chapala Sports Bar & Resto is another fine, laid back Central American kitchen and bar in the heart of Jersey's capital city.“

“Sabor latino has some really tasty food. I recommend the mofongo and any of the entrees or tacos. It’s good portion size and flavored really well. Drinks are decent here some classic cocktails and beers available. Only downfall here is that everytime I visited it’s been extremely loud and overstimulating. All the servers speak Spanish and a couple know English as-well.“

El Patio Latino Restaurant Latin American • $

“I had the absolute pleasure of dining at El Patio Latino, and I must say it was an unforgettable experience. The authenticity of the Peruvian cuisine transported my taste buds to a whole new level. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with warmth and a genuine sense of hospitality from the staff. The service was nothing short of excellent, with every need attended to promptly and courteously. It's evident that the team at El Patio Latino takes great pride in providing top-notch service to their guests. What truly sets El Patio Latino apart is the ambiance. The entire restaurant is adorned with stunning furniture straight from Peru, creating an atmosphere that's not just delicious but culturally immersive. It's like taking a culinary journey through Peru without leaving your table. But the icing on the cake was when the owner personally came out to chat with us. Their passion for Peruvian cuisine and dedication to creating an authentic experience was palpable. It was fascinating to hear about their journey, and it added a personal touch to the meal. While it's unfortunate to hear that the location in Peru has closed, it's clear that El Patio Latino's presence in Barcelona, Spain, and Sarasota, Florida, is thriving. It's no surprise that people are flocking to experience this exceptional taste of Peru in such wonderful destinations. In conclusion, El Patio Latino is a culinary gem that offers not just outstanding Peruvian cuisine but also a heartfelt welcome and an immersive atmosphere.
