“The whole experience was amazing, Paulo, the owner, was so kind, he made us feel like we were in his home the whole time. He kept refilling our tea and appetizers, which he gave us as soon as we sat down, with soup. This was free of charge! He made suggestions to help us choose the main dishes, talked about Macau and some traditions. His wife cooks and he serves, everything is fresh and prepared earlier in the day. “The restaurant is vegetarian but most dishes are vegan, and the vegan options are clearly labelled. The Pad Thai was mediocre. It was too sweet and not very flavourful otherwise. There was a meagre amount of tofu and vegetables. Maybe I just didn’t order the right dish - their burritos looked delicious. Regardless, the meal was filling and I was glad to find vegan food in St John’s! Cute exterior decor and cozy ambiance.“

“**5 Stars - A Hidden Gem!**

I had the pleasure of trying the breakfast fish cakes with over-easy eggs, fried potatoes with bacon and onions, and toast—and wow, I am absolutely blown away. The restaurant was surprisingly empty, which made no sense considering how fantastic the food was. This was hands-down the best breakfast I’ve had in the downtown core.

The fried potatoes were the star of the show. I know it’s a simple dish, but they were absolutely perfect—crispy on the outside, tender and fully cooked on the inside. I couldn’t stop eating them! The fish cakes were delicious as well, and the over-easy eggs were cooked to perfection.

Now, the toast… I don’t know what kind of magic is happening back in the kitchen, but it was something special. The toast was like the gold at the end of my breakfast rainbow. Honestly, it was so good, I’m convinced there must be a leprechaun working their toast-making magic in the back!

This place is a hidden gem, and I’ll definitely be back. If you’re in the area, do yourself a favour and stop by—you won’t be disappointed!“

I ordered a skillet for breakfast, and it tasted good, but it was more potatoes only with some little pices of sausage and bacon. a bit overpriced for breakfast if you consider what you get (quality and quantity).

“Fabulous!! This was our 1st time at Adelaide Oyster House and it did not disappoint. Very friendly, great service and the food was amazing! There was a beautiful aroma when we entered the restaurant. We had some oysters which came from various provinces, NS, PE and NL, with different sauces and tried 4 of their appetizers...pork belly dumplings, beet salad, Korean chicken and spicy tuna. All were delicious. Service was great! Looking forward to the next time!“

“recently had the pleasure of dining at Gingergrass, and I can confidently say it was the best Thai food I've ever had! From the moment I walked in, the staff made me feel truly welcome, treating me like family. Their warmth and attentiveness added so much to the experience.

The food was absolutely incredible. Each dish was bursting with authentic flavors and beautifully presented. I especially loved the Peanut Curry Combo, which was a perfect balance of spices and freshness. You can tell that every ingredient is carefully selected and prepared with love.

“We came here for dinner one night as their tapas menu seemed more interesting than the gastro pub or other options.

They have an outdoor patio but it looks more like a rail car as you step up into it. It is on Water Street but the kitchen is accessed off the side street so the servers were running back and forth to get orders.

For drinks we ordered 2 Frozen Rose Sangrias which were cool and refreshing to help beat the heat.

We ordered 2 Baja Cod Tacos, 2 Pork Belly Baos and some Pan con Tamate (bruschetta made of tomato, garlic, olive oil and you can add sea salt to taste). The cod tacos were crispy on the outside yet tender on the inside, the pork belly was crispy but moist due to the fat and the bruschetta was flavourful but the sea salt put it over the top!

We were still hungry so we also ordered a Bianca Flatbread. The garlic cream sauce and Brie made it creamy while the caramelized onions gave it some sweetness. The herbed mushrooms and prosciutto took it to a whole other level!

To finish off a great meal we shared a Dulce de leche Crème Brûlée. It was sweet, creamy and decadent and the perfect way to complete the evening.

If you want great service, food and atmosphere this is your place!

“Me and my partner went here for the first time today and it was the BEST restaurant experience I’ve ever had! After my order came out wrong, they were very quick to correct the mistake and apologized profusely. Paul recommended a wonderful red wine, and for someone who doesn’t typically drink wine, he found the perfect one for me! The menu had a great variety, I ordered the fish and chips and my partner ordered the smash burger, both were very delicious. The drink menu was endless, the atmosphere was very pleasant where you can have a romantic date or come with family! 10/10 I can’t recommend this place enough!!!“

“Good food made right. However sometimes using the Dash app for pick-up they don't always see the order especially if it's a slow day and they're in the back room. I had to wait an additional 20 minutes for my teriyaki bowl. It was worth the wait as it was delicious and well prepared.“

“I'm going to say it...this has to be one of the most underrated restaurants in the area.The prices are a little on the expensive side, but the portion sizes are pretty big, so if you don't finish your meal, you have leftovers!The food is really, really good here. I got Kung Pow Noodles, they were just the right level of spicy, bursting with flavour, and cooked to perfection.The service is also really good, the staff are friendly and helpful!I definitely recommend stopping here for a delicious supper or lunch!“

“It was a rainy day when we visit, perfect time for a bowl of ramen. Supposed to order Tonkatsu Ramen but some of the ingredients is not available so we end up ordering just Saigon Beef Pho and some maki. Ask for extra water with no ice waited but not served. We just ask another glass of water before we left. The menu is smelly hopefully they clean it regularly.

“This was our first time visiting Basho. We frequently visit St. John’s and very much enjoy the restaurant/food scene in town. This was one of my favourite meals I’ve had ever! The filet mignon was the best steak I’ve had in St. John’s hands down, the flavour was amazing and it was cooked perfectly. My husband had the special of the night which was the seafood steamer, which was mussels, scallops and shrimp in a Cajun cream sauce.. unreal!! He also had the spicy scallop roll which was so fresh and tasty. I can’t wait to visit again!“

“Had supper here with a large group of about 20 and the service was awesome; we were all drinking and nobody had to wait for a fresh drink. The food was delicious- the cauliflower bites were so good even my friend who doesn’t like vegetables liked them! I had the special which was pan fried cod and it was perfectly done and crispy. We had finger foods out that were devoured, and I couldn’t turn down desert- I had the nutty phyllo desert and it was AMAZING. Medium cheese pizza plus 2 toppings, garlic fingers and 1lb wings. We ordered ham and mushrooms for toppings. Pizza was really good, not greasy. Loved the thin crust. Garlic fingers was more delicious compared to the pizza because it had garlic and butter and cheese ?.
