Delightful experience. Wonderful food, service, and atmosphere. Highly recommended.
Cannot say enough good things about this restaurant. We ate there last night and had the most enjoyable evening. We have eaten in many places in Taos and each has their own unique characteristics. Der Garten takes top spot though. Everything served under the watchful eye of executive chef Asia. The food was delicious and the love and care put into the creations very evident. Just across from the Taos slopes, this is an authentic “made from scratch” restaurant featuring excellent European cuisine. They take great care with the ingredients and have innovative specials (duck confit pasta, ahi tuna salade nicoise) and of course, bratwurst. The ginger carrot soup with Pepitos and fresh cream was truly delicious. Friendly service and a great sense of history from the pictures (and stories) here. Cozy!
Der Garten is an exceptional restaurant in northern New Mexico that deserves Michelin Bib Gourmand recognition. Chef Asia's innovation shines through in traditional cultural dishes and simple meals like burrata salad, with a menu that includes European, Bavarian, and masterful offerings like duck confit pasta and ahi tuna salade nicoise. The ambiance is unique, set in a converted residential house, where guests enjoy dining on suede armchairs by a warm fireplace, creating a cozy and welcoming atmosphere.
The food and service are outstanding, with an open kitchen allowing guests to see the care in meal preparation. Highlights include the dragon bowl with ahi, ginger carrot soup with Pepitos and fresh cream, and various Bavarian favorites like bratwurst, steaks, chops, and seafood. Chef Asia and Kristof present beautifully crafted cuisine, complemented by fun cocktails and draft German beer by the liter.
The restaurant's charm is enhanced by its warm fireplace and antique memorabilia, making it much more than a sandwich shop. Der Garten is a must-visit, offering an unforgettable dining experience in TSV, where fresh, organic, made-from-scratch dishes are served with love and care, ensuring guests leave with a memorable experience.
