“Holy smokes. Where do I start? Thanks to the entire Canteen family - and I say FAMILY purposefully as you feel the family atmosphere as soon as you arrive - for hosting our team for dinner last week. We booked out the whole restaurant and they did just what we hoped for: Maritime hospitality, wonderful, genuine service and knock-your-socks off food. The team from across Canada went bananas over the Crobster sandwich. The special welcome from the owners was a lovely touch. The guests raved all the way back across the harbour on the ferry about the wonderful meal from start to finish. It’s a lovely space that is not pretentious and puts an emphasis on fantastic food and exemplary service, with a genuine smile. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️“

“Stopped by on a Saturday night trip from Ontario and ended up at Edna on a friend's recommendation, no regrets at all. The scallops were some of the best I've had, perfectly seared, and the whole menu felt like it actually understood Nova Scotia seafood instead of just cashing in on it. Our server knew the wine list cold and didn't rush us even though the place was packed. Small dining room so it gets loud, but honestly that just added to the fun, lively vibe of the night.“

Reta's is a delightful spot where every dish bursts with flavor and the service is always warm and welcoming. From the first bite to the last, everything we ordered was absolutely delicious. It's a quiet, cozy place that lets you truly enjoy your meal and the company you're with. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a relaxing dining experience with amazing food!

I wish the plating of the duck dish would be a bit different. We couldn't enjoy the sauce much without ordering the sourdough bread. Also if spoons were provided without asking as the sauces go to waste and we cannot enjoy them with the fork so the amazing sauces are wasted.“

A bit pricey (but we had the most expensive item on the menu), I also dont mind paying for quality food and service. Most places are expensive and they do not deliver excellence. We were pleasantly surprised at how delicious our meal was.

Portion sizes arent huge, which we appreciated as it left us feeling full but not like we were over stuff or being wasteful.

For dinner we had the NY striploin steak (4oz as we wanted dessert) with a red wine reduction sauce. Well.... Let me tell you, best steak ever! Vegetables and potatoes were cooked to perfection, plus the steaks came topped with garlic butter and huge portion of onions and mushrooms on the side made in the same garlic butter! The Keg used to be good, and we've been so disappointed the past few years, that were thrilled to find a place that can create a delicious meal for a fair price (comparative to other restaurants)

For dessert we each had a big piece of coconut cream pie, which was unbelievable.

Spent $170 overall with tax and tip included. Considering we eat out a couple times a year, this was very fair considering what we received.

The next morning we each had Eggs Benedict, which was also great!

“We ordered empanadas, arepas and black beans for lunch. Everything was extremely delicious. Try the cheese and pork empanadas, and the pork arepas with extra cheese. wow!“

But what made our night is the incredible server we had who was both witty, charming, funny while also very professional. He made my parents and grandmother all smile and laugh which was really appreciated. “After landing in Halifax following a red-eye we were pleased to see such a nice restaurant open for breakfast right on the water. The blueberry pancakes were delicious! Only a few berries per pancake but that was okay with me because the pancakes themselves were delicious. There was a brown sugar crumble on top and it was like crack!! The only disappointment was the bacon which, while good quality and thick, was overcooked. Would go back for dinner.“

“My first time at Jack Astors. I ordered the hunters chicken and for appetizers the garlic pan bread. The chicken was good, i really liked it and the sauce really made the dish. The bread was disappointing. I expected french or italian style bread, not dinner rolls with olive oil and garlic.

The server, Tiana, was attentive and and very pleasant, checking to make sure i was happy with my dinner.

There was a DJ and the music was a bit loud and not what i would listen to if i had a choice. It really took away from the experience“

“This was my first time at The Cannery, Bedford Row in downtown Halifax. I was greeted by friendly staff and my first thought was of the cleanliness of the restaurant and the staff were sharply dressed. The ambiance was chic and it was decorated in classy high end furnishings. I choose a both, yet still had a great view of Halifax harbour. The Braised Short Rib Pappardelle was cooked flawlessly and the sauce was tasty delicious. I look forward to the steak on my next visit. Mixologist Abi is amazing and pours the best tasting cocktails the city has to offer. His drinks please both the eye and the taste buds as he has a few tricks up his sleeve. “Pi has a great location, and if you sit in the back, you're treated to a beautiful ocean view. We ordered the Beef Dip and the Tandoori Chicken Burger, and both were delicious with excellent presentation.
The au jus that came with the beef dip was the real deal, and flavor to the max!
We also enjoyed a glass of wine and a cocktail, and both were fantastic. Great food, great drinks, and a wonderful atmosphere—we'll definitely be back!“
