“We were served by Nirmal, it was just coming onto lunch time and he was working alone waiting for his coworker to arrive, the minute we walked in he had such a good cheer and welcomed us as if we had been friends for years. We were indecisive of what we wanted to order and he was the most patient person and recommended a few options, service and and quality of our sandwiches were excellent! “Mcdonald's food is good - consistent across the country. The service is excellent. However, the kiosks with all their bells and whistles are far from intuitive. Redeeming reward points is limited to certain items. What's the point if you can't use them to get something you want. Come-on, Mcdonald's, try harder. Fix the kiosks and the app, or bring back the tills.“

“I was genuinely impressed by my experience at A&W in Canada. This is what fast food should look like in the United States. One of the biggest things that stood out to me was the quality of the beef. A&W promotes its beef as grass-fed and raised without added hormones or antibiotics, and that commitment to better ingredients makes the meal feel completely different from typical fast food. The burger tasted fresh, flavorful, and much closer to something you would expect from a local restaurant than a drive-through chain.

The presentation also made the experience memorable. The fries were served in an actual metal fry basket instead of being dumped into a flimsy cardboard sleeve. It is a small detail, but it made the meal feel more intentional and enjoyable. The fries stayed crisp, were easy to share, and looked far more appetizing.

The absolute highlight, though, was the chilled glass mug. Drinking an ice-cold root beer from a heavy, frosted glass mug is an experience that disposable cups simply cannot match. The mug was freezing cold, the root beer stayed perfectly chilled, and it added a nostalgic, classic-diner feeling to the entire meal.

A&W Canada proves that fast food can still be convenient without sacrificing ingredient quality, thoughtful presentation, or the overall dining experience. American fast-food restaurants could learn a lot from this model. Better beef, real serving baskets, and chilled glass mugs should not feel extraordinary—but they do, and A&W Canada deserves praise for keeping those standards alive.“

“Food was decent. Fries were full which is awesome. Ordering felt a little clunky. The fellow taking the order was nice. The place is shared with the visitor centre and a Timmy’s so it feels a little rough. We did manage to grab a table and enjoyed our lunch. The woman we talked to at the end when we grabbed our desserts for the road was quite nice.“

We can honestly say other A&W's that we visited in Nova Scotia have not been been well kept but, A & W on East River Road in New Glasgow, NS is top of their game.
