Loved the food - the five of us ordered everything on the starter and entree menu to share, and the winner was the steak. The fish and chips was very special too. Everything was very yummy, and the service was exceptional given there was only one server and one bartender on a Friday night. I took one star off only because there was no AC and I was eaten alive by mosquitos.
I had a lot of fun. I ordered the caesar salad, amongst other things. It’s served with a spoon, which makes you go “Hm what is the spoon for?” It made for a fun little challenge at first (granted, I grazed and took about 2 hours to finish my meal) but once you get the hang of it, it’s like oh wow. Dressing was the standout; unique and memorable. Definitely one of the most interesting Caesar salads I’ve had. I had fun

Maite is a restaurant with an ambiance that exudes a local, vibrant energy and feels like a hidden gem. The waitstaff is attentive but laid back, creating a charming and welcoming atmosphere. The restaurant offers delicious dishes with high-quality ingredients, such as the squid ink burrata cooked in pork fat, the rotating empanaditas, the sloppy burger, and the fatty pork belly with crunchy chicharron. The menu is simple, written on a huge chalkboard by the open kitchen, with staples and rotating specials. Don’t miss the chocolate cake or the basque cheesecake for dessert. The cocktails and French fries are standout favorites. While the prices are on the higher side, the unique Basque-inspired South American cuisine, sex-positive decor, and enjoyable atmosphere make it a worthwhile dining experience, especially for those who appreciate the LGBTQ+ community. The vibe is funky in a good way, and all are welcome—no snotty Bushwick thing here.
