About Sophie’s Rangoon Kitchen

Sophie’s Rangoon Kitchen is a small, casual restaurant popular with locals, offering authentic Burmese food. The restaurant operates on a self-service basis—customers look at the menu, order and pay at the counter, then sit and wait for their food to be brought to the table. It has a few small tables and bench seating, making it a cozy spot to enjoy a meal. Prices are very reasonable, with dishes like beef biryani for $15, fish noodle soup (mohinga) for $13, and pickled tea leaves salad also at $13. The food is known for being comforting, delicious, and authentically Burmese, with flavors that remind many of home cooking.

Popular dishes include the mohinga, which is not fishy but rich and creamy with interesting textures from fried toppings, and the dry garlic noodles with meatballs, which feature vermicelli, pork meatballs, tofu, and vegetables. The pickled tea leaf salad is unique and flavorful, and the dishes are often served with condiments like hot sauce and dry seasoning to add extra flavor. Many reviewers praise the food’s balance and freshness, highlighting the savory flavors and crunchy textures.

In addition to noodles and soups, the menu includes rice dishes, desserts like falooda, and textured drinks with toppings. Despite parking challenges, visitors find the food worth the visit, often leaving satisfied and eager to return for more dishes like kyay oh si chet or to try their desserts. Overall, Sophie’s Rangoon Kitchen offers an authentic and tasty Burmese experience in a friendly, affordable setting.

Great food, friendly service, and a cozy atmosphere! Everything was fresh, flavorful, and authentic. I really enjoyed my meal and will definitely be back. Highly recommend this place if you're looking for delicious, authentic Burmese food!
The foods taste really good and the service is also very nice. One of my favorite dishes is Kyay-Oh Si Chat. One suggestion I would like to give is that it would be even better if customers could refill hot water by themselves, similar to the system used at ရွှေပုလ္လင် in Myanmar. I don’t think arranging it that way would cost too much. Sometimes the waiting time is a bit long even when there is not crowded. Overall, I’m very satisfied with the quality...read full review
