Our server, Daniel, was really nice and dealt with my mixed Vietnamese and English like a champ. The food is very different from Little Saigon in Southern California, but it is well suited for the clientele in New York. I like it more than all other Vietnamese restaurants I’ve tried that aren’t in Vietnamese communities.

Chef Papa Vietnamese Kitchen LIC is a restaurant in Long Island City that has hosted a wedding reception and serves Vietnamese food. The staff is attentive and warm, and the team offered complimentary fruit platters. Chef Papa himself made special appetizers that weren't on the menu. The restaurant is beautiful, with lovely natural, green, Vietnamese-inspired decor. The food includes generous portions, a huge variety of appetizers, made-to-order entrées in big servings, and two kinds of dessert. Guests said it was the best wedding food they'd ever had, and one said he never knew Vietnamese food could be so diverse, interesting and delicious.
The pho is fresh, flavorful broth, good meat, fresh lime and herbs, and sauces that complement rather than rescue it. The bánh mì is also fantastic, with perfect crispy-but-soft bread, properly pickled carrots, and a genuinely bountiful amount of meat. The yellow curry is delicious. The truffle fries are the best, and the iced coffee is amazing. The food is fresh, flavorful, and authentic, with generous portions and great presentation. The atmosphere is comfortable and welcoming, making it a great place for a casual meal with family or friends. Servers are friendly, attentive, and helpful, and one dealt with mixed Vietnamese and English like a champ. There is also some wonderful Chef Papa/cosplay-community crossover happening here. The only thing holding it back is consistency, with a couple visits where things took longer than expected.
