I was on my way back from NYC today and had planned to grab food from the Grand Central market when I spotted A1 Adyar Ananda Bhavan. The Indian in me got attracted like a magnet and within the next minute I was seated. My plan was to have a dosa but once I saw the menu, I switched to the lunch thali. I got the masala dosa thali which came with the dosa, one idli, a medu vada, three chutneys, sambar and carrot halwa all for under $20. Service was fast and kind. The only thing I would change is I would have brought a friend because it was too much food for one person :)

A1 Adyar Ananda Bhavan is a restaurant famous for its dosas, located near E 39th Street. The food is very good and touches the soul. Everything tastes authentic, fresh, and full of traditional South Indian flavors. The vegetarian thali is a must-try; the Deluxe South Indian thali is good, and the South Indian Thali is certainly a value for money. The lunch thali is flavorful and satisfying. The dosa, idli, and upma are all excellent. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, though the restaurant is very simple and reminds you of home. The service is kind and efficient. A filter coffee in a steel tumbler tops off the meal. The prices are extremely reasonable, though some find it a bit pricey for fully vegetarian meals. Reservations are recommended for weekends. The restaurant closes daily at 9 pm. Pets are not allowed. Bus routes M 102 and M 103 service this route. This place is a culinary adventure and is highly recommended for anyone in love with Indian food.
