Lou Yau Kee Reviews
I finally got the chance to try the steamed chicken over rice platter which comes with bol choi, s tomato and some sliced cucumber… and cilantro. I loved every bite, dipping my chopsticks into different accompanying sauces before picking up a mouthful or alternatively dunking chicken into an accompanying cup of chicken broth. I also ordered a bowl of deliciously light cabbage soup, which was so huge that I couldn’t finish it. If you’re not too hungry, the cabbage soup can...read full review
100% authentic Singaporean hainanese Chicken rice. The highest compliment I can give is, I don’t crave for chicken rice when I visit Singapore. The real thing is here in NYC and it hits the spot every time.

Lou Yau Kee is a highly recommended restaurant known for its delicious and flavorful Hainanese chicken rice. The restaurant offers both roasted chicken and poached chicken options, with many reviewers praising the tenderness and juiciness of the chicken, especially the poached variety. The rice is a highlight, described as aromatic, flavorful, and infused with broth, especially when mixed with the three sauces provided—ginger scallion, spicy, and a sweet soy sauce. The sauces, including fresh chili, ginger, and other condiments, enhance the dishes significantly, adding extra flavor and a nice kick.
The broth served alongside the dishes is rich and full of flavor, often considered one of the best parts of the meal. The Chinese broccoli is tender and well-cooked, providing a good contrast to the soft, fragrant rice. Some reviewers mention the lemon fried chicken, which has a good fry but lacks a strong lemon flavor.
Prices are on the higher side, with dishes ranging from $18 to $20, but many feel the quality justifies the cost. Overall, Lou Yau Kee is praised for its quality, flavor, and authenticity, with some comparing it favorably to Singaporean standards. It is a great quick lunch spot for those seeking a satisfying and tasty meal, though a few mention it might be expensive for some. Fans of Hainanese chicken rice will find Lou Yau Kee to be a top choice worth visiting.
