About Taco Mahal

Taco Mahal is a popular restaurant on Lexington Avenue known for its delicious halal Desi fusion dishes. It offers a variety of flavorful options, including naan tacos, rice, lentils, and unique items like pani puri. The pani puri is highly praised for its fresh, made-to-order taste and generous portion with separate sauce for added fun. The lamb curry and chicken tikka roti tacos are favorites, with the lamb curry being especially flavorful, tender, and fragrant, while the chicken malai kabab taco provides a hearty, milder option. The chicken tikka roti tacos and salmon pakora naan taco are also enjoyed, though some find the chicken less flavorful or the salmon slightly overcooked.

The restaurant has a casual atmosphere with plastic decor and harsh lighting, which reflects its focus on good food over fine dining. Prices are considered reasonable, especially compared to the upper East Side standards, though the portions can be quite filling, and the cost may add up with multiple items. Service is routine, with quick preparation times, but menu pricing is not always displayed clearly. The ambiance can be warm, and the smell of food from the kitchen adds to the experience. Overall, Taco Mahal is appreciated for its tasty, fresh dishes, accessible location, and friendly staff, making it a great spot to enjoy flavorful Indian-inspired fusion food.

It’s my favorite food downtown and now it’s on Lexington where I can order all the time. Pro tip get two naan tacos and a serving of rice and lentils for the perfect lunch for two. So happy you’re in Lexington avenue!
Food is excellent, I rate this highly because it's reasonably priced, inexpensive by upper East side standards and the food is tasty. By no means fine dining, plastic decor, harsh lighting. For aficionados of Indian food. What I didn't like was plastic tableware and paper plates. Wasteful.
Don’t normally write reviews but feel taco mahal warranted it! I was at an event a few weeks ago and tried pani puri for first time and have been looking to get it again since. Saw taco mahal recently added it to their menu and wow it is amazing and tastes better then the first time I had it. The packaging was also very impressive as they give you ample amount of sauce separately and you get to put the stuffing in it yourself. Also it’s made fresh to order which I really appreciate!...read full review
