It was our favourite Bar when we visited New York, we always ended up for a few drinks or food after our sightseeing or after a show.
Great staff/service and great food.

Stopped in for some late night bites after a show. The portions are shareable and the food was outstanding- I only have good things to say. The mixed drinks were perfect, service was attentive, speedy, and cooperative. I would definitely recommend and will be back.
Pulled up places to eat near my hotel on Yelp. This place looked great and it was. A nice interior with really nice servers that are helpful and friendly.
The food and cocktails were right up my alley. I had the Alter Ego cocktail which was a combination of gin, falernum and something lavender. It was awesome. The sandwich was king. Pork belly BLT with a fried egg. All I can say is that it was heaven. Perfectly made fries as well.

The Independent is a charming eatery with a warm and calming atmosphere. The expertly prepared cocktails, such as the Thread the Needle, and dishes seasoned with a kick are a delight. The attentive and pleasant servers add to the enjoyable dining experience. The menu boasts delicious dishes, including Deviled Eggs, Sticky Fried Tofu, Risotto, Chicken Salad Bowl, and Shrimp Tacos, all of which are expertly prepared and presented. Many guests have praised the friendly staff and good service, with managers checking in often to ensure satisfaction. While the restaurant can get loud during peak hours, the food is worth a visit, and the cozy setting with candles and low lighting enhances the experience. The crispy tofu and butter cake for dessert are highly recommended. The staff are very nice and attentive, making guests feel welcomed. Despite some delays and limited menu options at times, the overall experience remains positive. Seating may be a bit uncomfortable for shorter guests, but the quality of food and drinks makes up for it. The restaurant remains a favorite spot for those wanting to relax after sightseeing or a show, offering great service and tasty dishes. The bar staff, especially Nicolas with curly hair and glasses, is praised for their exceptional service, making the visit even more memorable.
