“I stopped by the Hindu Temple Canteen after visiting the temple and the place delivers exactly what people say about it. The food is simple, fresh and made with the kind of consistency you only get in a temple kitchen.

I tried two plates because I was there with a friend. The pongal was warm, comforting and properly seasoned. The curd vada had a light, balanced taste and felt refreshing. The mixture on the side added a nice crunch. The dosa was crisp, not oily, and the coconut chutney tasted clean. The sambar was mild but paired well with everything.

The canteen is not about presentation. It's about honest food that feels familiar and satisfying. Portions are fair and pricing is very reasonable for New York. If you're already visiting the temple, stopping here makes total sense. It’s quick, reliable and a good break before heading back out.“

“I had a wonderful experience at this Indian restaurant! The atmosphere is warm and friendly, making it a perfect spot for gatherings. When the staff learned that we were celebrating a birthday luncheon, they kindly paused the music during our cake cutting and even played the "Happy Birthday" song on the big screen. Such a thoughtful touch! The veg platter/thali was delicious, and I highly recommend trying the masala chai as it's a must! Overall, I give this place a well deserved 5 stars!“

Ordered a samosa chat, two extra potato samosas, chicken kebabs, and chicken tikka masala. The chicken breast chunks were very tender in the tikka masala sauce, and the chicken kebabs were delicious.“

However, The Chana saag wasn’t as fresh tasting as other places.. something was off. The basmati rice here is also super bland, which is disappointing bc I always look forward to the subtle flavor.. here the rice just tastes like water.“

Then a Dosa (kind of Indian pancake or burrito) with chicken tásala (they ask you how spicy you want). The chicken has a good flavor, so it s a good option when you are boring to eat traditional fast food. The sauces are ok but the Tamarindo was the best with a sweet and a little spicy flavor. The place is pretty small, you order at the cashier, seat, eat and go. “One of the most authentic places to feast at. Visited here from Toronto, Canada and felt like I was eating a home cooked meal. The quality of the food speaks for itself in the fact that you don’t feel uneasy after filling up your belly with whatever you order from the menu.The free lassi was one of my favourite parts and I thoroughly enjoyed the buttermilk goodness. I took back 8 boxes of their famous barfi and till now I order boxes and have them shipped here, it’s been 8 years since I first ate there. Visited once again recently and can say other restaurants don’t compare. We have hundreds of India restaurants in Toronto, Brampton and Mississauga and have yet to try something as good as this place. Thanks for the great service and homemade food. They call it chicken Tikka but what it is is a hefty kebab freshly grilled ground chicken with spices, served with naan bread, and spicy yogurt sauce, for five bucks. It's substantial, but more than that, indescribably delicious. They don't seem quite hindu or quite Muslim, I can't quite place it, but these hardworking Americans serve LaGuardia's taxi and limo drivers and anyone lucky enough to wander in.“

Now it's a family-run business apparently, and the owner is the uncle that created India Cafe in Richmond and Floral Park previously. He sold both those establishments and said his only focus is now on Royal India Palace, and you can tell ... the food is great.“
