Red House Restaurant Reviews
Shanghai cuisine, Shanghai flavor restaurant
This place serves very authentic Shanghainese-style food. The chicken was tender and flavorful, and the pork belly dry noodles were absolutely delicious. The zongzi was one of the best I’ve ever had—honestly, much better than the ones I make myself. Highly recommended!
Red House feels like a culinary mix of Shanghai and Northern Chinese cuisine. One thing is for sure: they do not play around with their spices! Even ordering 'wei wei la' (mild spice) packs a punch. Overall, most of the dishes lean toward standard Chinese comfort food, nothing groundbreaking stood out, but the prices are very reasonable for the portion sizes.
Also reco bringing cash bc they offer cash discount!

The Red House Restaurant is a hidden gem serving authentic Shanghainese cuisine. This cozy restaurant offers a variety of dishes, including tender braised pork belly, sour cabbage fish slice stew, spicy chicken appetizer, Shanghai-style sticky rice, and pan-fried pork buns. The menu features good portion sizes and reasonable prices, making it a great choice for a family-style meal. The staff provides friendly and attentive service, with the ability to accommodate dietary restrictions, although some customers have noted that food can take a while to arrive. The restaurant is a solid spot for a late-night meal.
Customers praise the restaurant for its outstanding flavors, with one reviewer describing the dishes as "5-star quality." The braised pork and chicken dishes are particularly noteworthy, with the chicken described as "juicy, aromatic, and perfectly paired with their signature dipping sauce." The Benbang Duck is also highlighted as a standout, described as very balanced and enjoyable. The Shredded Eel, known as a signature dish, lives up to the hype with its fresh and aromatic flavor profile.
However, some customers have found that certain dishes, like the Scallion Noodles and Toasted Bran, missed the mark, lacking the desired flavors. If the service were improved, the restaurant could be one of the top Shanghai restaurants in New York. The Red House Restaurant is highly recommended for anyone craving authentic Shanghainese cuisine.
