It’s a lovely, old school health food store that manages to fit a large number of options into a relatively small space. Thankfully, this place makes life a little better.
My go-to order is a pastrami, egg, and cheese wrap with home fries and hot sauce, and it's always on point. But what really keeps me coming back is that they never say no. Whether I want to customize a sandwich, smoothie, fresh juice, or milkshake, no matter how ridiculous my order gets, they always greet me with a smile and do their best to make it exactly the way I want it.

“My mother and Daughter stopped in this beautiful shop after a little shopping at the local thrift store . They had so many healthy options . Fruit and yogurt bowls ,natural juices , immunity shots , smoothies . My mother and I got veggie patties (delicious). My daughter opted for the Salmon bite salad . When that salad came out both me and mother wanted another to share . The shop owners and workers were kind and patient . The store had a lot to offer and the space was neat a clean even while they were working on a batch of immunity shots.

“When going through the vegan options in LaGuardia, I was surprised to see much more limited choices than I would expect. I had lunch at Green Leaf’s. They had impossible as an option, but it was naturally vegetarian. The staff were on top of it though. They asked if I was vegan and then switched the pita for a wrap, removed cheese and sour cream and freely subbed in hummus and balsamic. I had visited vara juice multiple times, with each time being a pleasant experience and yesterday's visit was no exception. I ordered a large strawberry banana smoothie. It came out delicious per usual. I prefer vara juice to the other juice bars in bay ridge. My only gripe with them is that nowthey only have one person working there, so just be patient. “The 5 stars are for the smoothies and juices. They are genuinely great and I highly recommend them!

However, despite living in the area, it’s hard for me to go here for a drink regularly even though I want to. The main reason is the amount of plastic. Maybe I’m an outlier here but I just can’t get comfortable with the amount of plastic that gets used with every single drink.

All I want is a drink in a glass. Instead, it’s in a plastic cup, with a plastic straw that is individually wrapped in plastic. I’ve tried asking for drinks “for here” but they don’t really have that as far as I can tell. Instead, I get a drink in a plastic cup, sealed with plastic, in a plastic bag.

It’s very hard because I love getting a drink here but always come away feeling bad about the amount of plastic waste I’ve just caused to go out into the environment for a single smoothie. I’ll be their biggest champion if they just introduce a “for here” option that is a simple glass. Or, let me bring my own glass if it’s easier!“
