“I will start by saying this is hands down my favorite Chinese restaurant. Perhaps maybe our favorite restaurant. They are friendly, make sure you always have something to drink and quick with the food. Now, talking food. It is so very fresh and delicious. We have made multiple trips by now we have never had a bad meal, let alone experience. The atmosphere is relaxing and beautiful. Bonus, if you do not want to eat inside, there is a drive thru or take out available.“

“I really wish you could break ratings down farther into quarters. I would most likely rate this establishment a 4.5. So there are several China Cottage restaurants in the Dayton metro area: Centerville, Kettering, Trotwood, and rumor has it they may be opening on in Huber Heights. This review features the Trotwood location.
As I get older, and my palette becomes more discriminating the China Cottage locations are still at the top of my list, and preferred "go to" when I'm in the mood for Asian cuisine. This visit was for supper on a Saturday evening. My husband always orders the same item, no matter which Asian restaurant: Moo Goo Gai Pan. I order the fried eggplant and we shared a Pao Pao Platter.
I will focus on the items I indulged in. I first had the fried eggplant at the Kettering location and totally enjoyed it. So since I like the dish at one of their locations, I decided I should try it at another to see if the dish was consistent at differing locations. I was not disappointed. The fried eggplant was mixed with water chestnuts, thinly sliced garlic, green onions, thinly sliced carrots in a brown sauce. I am not a person who can handle spicy foods and the first time I tried the dish it was at the "2 pepper" heat level which was too much for me. This time I requested it non-spicy. Removing the heat from the dish did not take away any of the flavor. As with the majority of meals you also have your choice of rice to complement it. Portion sizes were more than ample. I took half of home to enjoy at a later time. Of course, part of that could be due to partaking in the Pao Pao platter.
The appetizer could easily be shared with 3, maybe 4 people. The Pao Pao is fun due to how it is presented. Includes a mini heat source for further grilling the meat scures. The crab ragoon is one of my favorites as they add finely chopped onion and imitation crab meat making for a flavorful filling. The seaweed chicken rolls were wonton wrapped chicken with a small band of seaweed around the middle of the roll on the outside. This was good dipped in sweet-n'-sour sauce. The shrimp rolls were okay, but not my favorite. Maybe that was by they time I tried one they had started to cool off. I might have to try them again for a second take. The meat kabobs were tender, and I loved that I could reheat them on the mini grill to my taste.
My husband feels China Cottage has the best Moo Goo Gai Pan of any Asian restaurant he was eaten at.
They do not have a soda fountain, but offer Coke products in 20 oz. bottles. They also have hot and iced tea and a range of alcoholic beverages. Service was great. They were attentive without being over intrusive.
The decor is dark and starting to look a little worn. Bringing my rating score down from a 5. The tropical fish tank is clean and looks well cared for adding a nice calming touch to the atmosphere. I still feel the China Cottages in the area are consistent in their service and cuisine. I will definitely continue to revisit these locations when craving an Asian meet.“

“We always do takeout, and it's consistent and tasty, and a heap of food for the prices. Like old school 1997 American Chinese restaurant food... Comfortable and very yummy, and if you just get the veggies, possibly kinda healthy? Probably not but the Chow mee fun veggies always leaves me feeling less guilty than any other Chinese dish ?“

“Food has always been excellent. My wife didn’t care for the hot and sour soup it had a bit too much sour. The lady at the front has always been friendly. The aesthetic is what you would expect for a Chinese place that doesn’t do a lot of sit down traffic.“

“Zero atmosphere. You come here to get food to go! I've found this place hit or miss at times. Egg rolls used to be really good but lately, eh. Chicken w/ broccoli is always good, along with their general tsos. Their call answer service isn't the best at knowing the menu so it's wise to look it up on their website.“

“I have been coming here for over 8 years and have never had a bad meal. I am a germophobe and I check Montgomery County Health department records which is publicly available to see if there is any issues with any restaurant. It has passed with flying colors. Check for yourself and you will see. They have the BEST hot and sour soup in Dayton. I have tried a half dozen other restaurants in the area and they don’t even compare to theirs. PF Changs’ soup is absolute trash compared to Dragon City on Keowee St. Don’t judge a book by its cover, the building looks old on the outside but the food speaks for itself and I wouldn’t guide others the wrong way on what tastes great. A++++“

“I ordered their orange chicken dinner combo with hot n sour soup and beef lo mean. It was absolutely amazing. I moved to Dayton about a year and a half ago and I feel like a lot of other fast casual Chinese food places just didn't have that much depth in the flavor, or it just lacked something that I missed from my hometown. I'm probably picky as I'm originally from a big city with a lot of options, but hands down this place has my heart for Chinese food here in Dayton. I can't wait to try more dishes! The only complaint I have is that the hot n sour soup was bland, but I usually like mine with a lot of flavor and punch. This place is so good along with the bright moon buffet. My two fav Chinese places!!“

“Ordered for carry out. Everything ordered was great. I got the beef with broccoli, general tso's chicken, pork fried rice, wonton soup and fried wontons. The beef and broccoli were flavorful and tender. The pork fried rice and wonton soup were just the right flavors and textures. The general tso's chicken was good, but a little lacking in the spiciness, it was mostly just sweet. Placed my order to pick up and it was all ready in 20 minutes. Nice customer service as well. When asked about Chinese food this is the only place I will reccomend in the future. We will be getting all our Chinese food cravings fulfilled here in the future!“

“I’ve been going here for my take out Chinese food for the past 3-5 years and my food as always been hot, delicious, and ALWAYS correct and the service impeccable. If my guy in the American flag hat reads this; you know who I am and I’ll be in soon for more food
Parking: Parking on either side of building but preferred on east side of building due to the door being on that side“

“The food is good. I really enjoy the bourbon chicken. Not every buffet has bourbon chicken. Location is convenient. But my absolute favorite part of this place is every time I've dined here they play Christian music and more specifically Klove radio. Thank you for sharing positive music! It's so refreshing to hear that while eating!“

“They prepare the food fast, the order accurate and awesome, I just wish they had different fish in the fish tank. I've eaten here for years and it's sad to say they seem to be mostly carryout orders compared to eating inside anymore.“
