“The restaurant isn't eye-catching, but the food is absolutely delicious! Mr. Bailey personally greets customers with his trademark greeting and takes the time to make his recipes to order. Once you visit more than once, you're no longer a customer, you're more like family. I highly recommend it!“

“Having a tip automatically added to the bill of two people is off-putting. For the record, I'm a good Tipper. I did actually add to the 15% automatically added because our server was awesome. But tipping is an addition, not part of the bill. Heck, add it to the cost of the food and I'll pay it. but not in tipping. that's my choice.“

“After a long work week of plowing and salting, I needed some real home-cooked food. I called ahead and placed an order, let them know I was about 25 minutes out, and when I arrived my food was ready in about 5 minutes—they made it work.

I sent my grandma to pick it up for the family, and she said the place was very clean, the staff was friendly, and they even offered her a drink while she waited. She’s a senior, so that kind of hospitality means a lot to me. Customer service like that is rare these days, and the way they treated my grandma speaks volumes. Truly a godsend.

We ordered 3 soul bowls, a side of red beans and rice, corn muffins, and a piece of orange roughy. The yams were delicate but still held together. The mac and cheese was creamy with a nice cheese pull. The dirty rice had a slight spice that was balanced perfectly by the sweet cornbread or yams in the bowl. The chicken fritters weren’t overly seasoned and complemented the bowl really well. The orange roughy was lightly breaded with great flavor.

The only thing I’d personally pass on is the fries—but with all those sides, fries were the last thing I needed anyway.

If you’re looking for a filling, comforting two-step meal, the $15 soul bowl is absolutely the move. Big thanks to the cooks and the staff. I’ve seen comments about consistency, and I get it—that’s exactly why people keep coming back.

I’ll definitely be back and plan on ordering a couple half pans of sides for my holiday dinner to support a local business. Just know when Jovani R places an order, it’s all love, family.

“I got a catfish dinner with dressing/gravy and mac and cheese. Mac and cheese was fantastic to me. Made just like I like it but the dressing was a little too sweet for my taste. Good flavor but sweet. Fish was great. I did get some strawberry lemonade kool-aid. It was good and sweet. I would definitely go back.“

“The food is absolutely delicious! I am going on my 3rd year of a meatless diet and I am so happy to have discovered this place of business. Everything was flavorful and those sweet potato muffins were so moist. I highly recommend trying them out whether you are a vegetarian or not, you will enjoy the food! 😋“

“Hands down this place has the best baked chicken I’ve ever had in my life! You don’t need no gravy no hot sauce nothing and it’s always tender & juicy. It’s only served on Sundays but it’s so worth it.

“I just tried Mattie Ruth's for the first time and I got the smothered pork chops with tomatoes with okra, mac and cheese. It was the best tasting food. The porkchops were so good that the made me cry. I will eat here again, just might be lunch today.“
