The best thing about living in Ottawa is the Rideau Bakery. I stop in a couple times a week for rye bread, deserts (best donuts in town, sorry Suzy Q) and sometimes breakfast at the counter. They keep a kosher kitchen so you won't get any bacon with your eggs there but they make a great plate of potato hash!
Great donut and coffee. Boston creme yeasted fresh made the old fashioned way, you can smell the nicely baked dough. Chocolate fudge topping, cream filling just perfect to taste and not too sweet. Nice coffee too. $3.30 for both can't beat that.

I tried my first butter tart here and I have no regrets. The staff is very friendly and warm. The bakery has a great selection of both bread and desserts. The Rideau Bakery feels very local and independent and has so much character!
