“I’ve been shopping at this Food Basics consistently for the past two years. Before that, I’ll admit I mostly avoided it because it was the “discount” grocery store — but with Zehrs’ prices climbing higher and higher, I gave Food Basics another look, and I’m glad I did.

This location was one of the first Food Basics stores in the area, so it has a much smaller footprint than the newer ones. With Zehrs being the only major competitor nearby, the store is always busy, and that shows. The aisles are narrow, the regular carts feel oversized, and the store can feel congested almost all the time.

Because of the high traffic and limited space, out‑of‑stocks happen fairly often, and sometimes items that are in stock are close to their best‑before date. Still, for many everyday products, Food Basics is consistently the price leader compared to Zehrs, and that makes a real difference.

The staff I’ve interacted with on the floor have always been friendly and willing to help. At checkout, there are usually only one or two cashiers on, so lines form quickly. I normally use self‑checkout, which is also a bit cramped due to the narrow aisle and cart size — but it works.

Despite the tight layout and occasional stock challenges, I shop here because my money simply goes further. It’s not perfect, but it’s a good, reliable store — and the value keeps me coming back.“

“We tried the Detroit Pepper Company tonight, first time! We went with the Detroit Stuffed Pepper, beef with parmesan cheese. Very good taste, and huge. We also ordered the Vegan Stuffed Pepper, but we will have to try it tomorrow for lunch...too full from the Detroit Stuffed Pepper! We also tried the lentil bean soup, very nice. And my wife enjoyed the Mango Tastic smoothie:-) We're happy to learn about the Detroit Pepper Company, and we'll be back. Highly recommended. I made a mistake and forgot to inform Darren I needed napkins, and I totally forgot to get them.
