This location is expertly designed and I personally feel that boxcar serves the best coffee beans in the city (subtext roasters) but the atmosphere in here was so unbearable today I have to deduct a star. European Son by The Velvet Underground & Nico is an iconic track, but it is not conducive to any of the activities that happen at a coffee shop. Good vibes in a space that is tucked away and much larger than it seems. There are three rooms in the cafe. The first one is low-lit and a bit louder due to the sound system. The back two rooms are much larger and have a varied range of seating. Plenty of seating available.

Love this coffee shop. The ambiance of this space is cute. The bagel spreads are super yummy.

Boxcar Social Laneway is a hidden gem tucked away in a quiet laneway. This warm and welcoming cafe offers a cozy atmosphere with soft lighting, plants, and vinyls playing in the background. The cafe serves a range of delicious treats, including caramelized Kouign-amann pastries and Skor cookies. Their specialty coffee is expertly brewed with beans from Subtext Coffee. The cafe has three distinct rooms, each with different soundscape and esthetic. The coffee is excellent, and drinks like the Strawberry Matcha and oat milk latte are delicious. Pastries are fresh and tasty, making it a great place to grab a morning coffee or meet a friend. With limited seating, it’s a perfect spot to grab a quick bite or linger over a cup of coffee. The atmosphere is cozy and comfortable, nicely decorated with a turntable everyone can enjoy. The staff is very friendly and quick with orders. Alternative milk options are available.
