amazing!! great concept will definitely return
Every.Single.Thing I ate here was an absolute banger... Forgive me for not knowing the proper names, as I wasn't in charge of ordering, but... that chicken dish (with almost jerk-style seasoning) was mind-blowingly delicious, as were the seafood pancakes, which are the absolute best I've had anywhere in Southern Ontario, frankly. The beef ribs, the fish dish with rice and seaweed, the cold noodles (with heavy sesame flavour), etc.,etc. My gosh, I genuinely cannot recall the last...read full review
After months of trying out bars and restaurants I was getting pretty tired of the monotony and mediocre dishes. Cut to, I was walking around looking for something interesting just then this dingy, canteen like, street food vibe place caught my eye. From the outside it looks like a surreal street in the middle of Toronto. Upon entering in the vibe was genuinely cool and artsy, and i get could tell the food is about to be fire. Gyopo Makgeolli Brewery (僑胞) is a small, dingy, canteen‑like spot that feels like a surreal street in the middle of Toronto. Inside the vibe is genuinely cool and artsy, with a mysterious ambiance that makes the food feel like it will be fire. The menu is full of authentic Korean taste and unique dishes. The chicken dish with almost jerk‑style seasoning is mind‑blowing, and the Korean seafood pancake is an explosion of flavor, paired with a delicious dip. Seafood pancakes and cold noodles with heavy sesame flavour are among the best any visitor has had. Beef ribs and a fish dish with rice and seaweed also shine, while the beef tartare and grilled cabbage are tasty but not wow‑ing. The craft makgeolli is a must‑try; the earl grey flavor is recommended. Rice beers are delicious and come in many flavors. The staff is friendly, and the decor feels like dining in a Korean alley way stall. The ice cream, a mix of perilla oil and vanilla, is eccentric and fun. The oyster pajeon and maek jeok are unique, and the aged hamachi is fresh and a great starter. Many guests say the place is a gem that should stay hush hush. Reservations are advised for larger groups, but the spot is worth revisiting for its great atmosphere, service, and memorable Korean cuisine.
