It’s a small, tucked-away spot that we only share with a handful of people because we love being able to stop in and enjoy a fresh, consistently amazing bowl of ramen without the crowd. The quality is always spot on, no matter the day. The waitress always remembers our order, which makes it feel like home, and the cook always greets us with a smile. “My toddler, his daddy and I visited this establishment today and it was delicious. The staff were friendly and I thoroughly enjoyed how sweet and patient the staff were with my on the spectrum toddler who thinks he is an imaginary cat. I absolutely loved the art work on the walls.“

“This is another gem in the McMenamins line of fun, historical establishments - and by far my favorite! Been here many times over the years - actually even had my very first lobster roll EVER here (as a special item years ago) and it was amazing. The vibe is so quirky - you definitely feel like you’re walking the halls of your old elementary school - except there are bars and a lively restaurant and even a brewery haha!! The staff has always been super welcoming and friendly. The food at their main Courtyard Restaurant has always been great. On my last visit (July 2023), I had their chicken salad sandwich on croissant and it was SO GOOD!! Even their tater tots were perfectly cooked. And they even have some of the best iced tea I’ve had outside of the south! Their menu changes seasonally so it’s always a treat to try something new. After eating, leave time to explore - the grounds are just gorgeous and you’ll get lost in the nostalgia as you wander around the old school’s hallways. They have several bars - one is huge and has total steampunk vibes. They have a small hotel and a salt water pool - even the bathrooms are beautiful. I’d definitely like to stay here next time - but I imagine it can be a tad spooky at night haha! The school opened back in 1915 so it’s a historic building. The wall art is gorgeous and there are lots of info signs and historical pics scattered around. It’s in a good location in north Portland with plenty of parking and easy to find. I’ll definitely be back next time I’m in the area!“

“I didn't get her name, but this one girl I talked to was so sweet!! We talked about the weather in Portland vs California, and a bit about my visit to Japan and she said she'd give me a discount. Which she absolutely did NOT have to do. I just wasn't ready for that discount to be like.. the entire price. I only paid a dollar!?? But I still tipped anyways because this girl is amazing and would love to chat with her again the next time I come by.“

“I came for one beer and left with three new friends, a minor existential crisis, and a T-shirt I don’t remember buying. Civic Taproom is like Cheers, if Cheers had 20+ rotating taps and everyone was slightly more hipster.

The bartender had the beard of a lumberjack and the pour skills of a Michelin-star sommelier. I asked for something “hoppy but emotionally supportive,” and he nailed it. The IPA hugged my soul while whispering, “You’re doing your best.”

“Great local taproom. They play great music on a double record player, and great live music on the weekends. The cider in particular is very good. The food is hot or miss, the pizza is great if a little pricey, the apps and sandwiches are getting better.

“I love this place. I popped in for a casual Sunday afternoon lunch / lap dance and enjoyed the food, the company, the conversation, and the music thoroughly. The Acropolis is such a unique and beautiful place and they hire the most wonderful people.“

Everything on the food menu is good but, in my opinion, they have some of the best smash burgers in the city. If you're a fan of that style I definitely recommend trying one.

Even though they're not necessarily known for their cocktails, they always have a few really unique and fun options in that department too, also often using local products.

Kid-friendliness: Kid friendly until a certain time of evening.

I wouldn't bring tiny kids there but my tweens/teens love it. They love taking card games in the afternoons to play while we get drinks and snacks.“
