“As I was dropping down into Warm Springs, on that 2013 trip, I was more hungry than I was in a hurry to get to Prineville, when I entered Warm Springs. I could easily see The DesChutes Crossing Restaurant Coffee Shop off to the right, as I approached the Deschutes River Crossing Bridge and would shortly be travelling uphill toward Madras. As I approached the restaurant I decided I should stop and feed my belly, instead of just driving on bye. Across the river from the café also happened to be a favorite fishing spot of some of my family relatives, back in the 1950s. We stopped at the restaurant and now let me take the time to tell you about The DesChutes Crossing Restaurant Coffee Shop. Now, I am accustomed to a short stack of pancakes at the Denny’s Restaurants and I am using Denny’s as a reference because most have been to a Denny’s restaurant at one time or another. I am not belittling Denny’s because I still frequent the local Denny’s near my home. I saw on the menu, at the Deschutes Crossing Restaurant and Coffee Shop (it has since been renamed to Eagle Crossing Restaurant and Coffee Shop ), that they had a short stack of pancakes with hash-browns, eggs and bacon, which was very reasonably priced (half of what is charged at Denny’s). I thought, ‘Oh, they are probably silver dollar pancakes.’ For those that don’t know it ‘silver dollar pancakes’ are the size of a silver dollar- like what Jack-n-Box used to sell. So, I ordered the short stack of pancakes. When the waitress brought out my order my eyes just about fell out of their sockets. I could not believe it. The order came on two “large” plates, one for the pancakes and the other for my hash browns, eggs and bacon. Both plates were much larger than what is served at Denny’s. But, what was on those plates was not at all like Denny’s. The pancakes completely covered the plate; in fact they were actually larger than the plate. That is no joke. There was not enough room for me to put syrup on the pancakes, because the pancakes were so large. I have never in my life seen pancakes as big as those served in that restaurant, and what’s more not even at anybody’s home. Their culinary expertise presented me with my first time ever challenge in eating pancakes. I like my pancakes swimming in syrup and that was impossible this time. Being creative I came up with a solution. My first bite came out of the middle of the stack, so I could pour syrup in the hole that was left, and I ate the pancake from the middle of the stack outward as I continued to make the pancakes swim in syrup from bite to bite and inside out. They were delicious and when I finished I was more than full. We left the restaurant and as my wife and I were getting into our van I stopped, turned, and looked back at the restaurant for the longest time. I thought to myself, ‘why did I have to always be in such a big hurry before and not stop here? Look at what I missed all those decades before.’ I do not know how they made any money on that meal, because it was so large and the price was so low. But, I do know that the size of those pancakes was a measure of the generosity of the Warm Springs Indians, which is something that is connected to their heritage. If you are ever traveling through Warm Springs stop at the Eagle Crossing Restaurant and Coffee Shop (formerly the Deschutes Crossing Restaurant and Coffee Shop) and enjoy the meal of your life. The café is also somewhat of a museum. So, also enjoy the many pictures and relics that are there to be seen. No matter where you are coming from or going to the Eagle Crossing Restaurant is not out of the way, no matter how many miles one has to drive to get there!”

It was so good we bought a whole sheet of them.

“This place is an absolute gem. I am always looking for tasty chicken katsu every city I visit and I can’t believe how good the katsu is here.
The atmosphere isn’t great as it’s next to the road but I always get my meal to go anyways so it doesn’t matter. The staff is always so nice and I make sure to stop every time I’m in town. The food is seriously so good!”

“What a lucky find—thank you Yelp! We are on a very long road trip and trying to eat healthy. Well, Great Earth is healthy and delicious both! We had great breakfast burritos and an assortment of their pastries. All highly recommended!”
“We stayed on a Friday and Saturday. The pizza is always very good and the drinks were flowing. Rick and his staff are great. As far as being willing h Harvest Host, Rick was very accommodating when we didn’t have a place to stay on Friday he said it would be fine for us to spend the night there. We will be going back there on another trip to central Oregon.”

“I had 3 carne asada loaded tacos but they were so good I finished them before I could snap a picture of them. I got this non alcoholic mixed drink with fruits that was spicy and sweet all in one with some peanuts mixed in. It was delicious as well but consider sharing it with someone as it’s big and filling.”

“From out of town and asked a local for recommendations since we hate chain food. Absolutely the best we have ever had in all our travels. We will be going here again on our way back through. Fresh food and the service was unbelievable. Spotless and the drinks are all top shelf. Only sad part is they don't have one in our town.”

“I want McDonalds to know that their assistant manager Jillian H. is literally the most upbeat, professional, efficient and happy McDonald's staff member I have ever experienced anywhere in the USA, Australia, England or SE Asia. This young woman was so upbeat and professional at 11pm at night I was blown away by her attitude and felt compelled to write this review. She is a credit to the company and I wish her the best in her endeavours! Please look after her!”
